Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"My name is Caleb Snyder. I called a company called HomeAdvisor from seeing an advertisement online. When I called, a rep answered and explained that before they can approve me to be part of their network...that they need to do a background check to make sure I don't have a criminal record. They said for verification purposes, they needed my Social Security Number and a credit card number in my name. I gave them the information, not knowing what they were going to do next. I told them I still wanted to think about whether I wanted to become part of the network, but that I would give them my information to see whether I was approved to be part of the network. They then said they needed to record the last part of the call, and asked if I agreed to having them check to see if I was approved. I agreed.

A few days later, I began getting emails with leads. Two problems: (1) I did not make the decision to begin receiving leads from them, and never did call one lead. (2) The leads they DID pass onto me werent even relevant to what I do. I am a painter, and they were sending projects that werent even painting projects.

Then I went to my bank account and sure enough....they charged me over $400. We called them to ask what was going on, and why I was being charged for leads I did not agree to. They said it looks like I agreed to being charged for all leads they sent me, and I told them that I was told by their rep that my information was ONLY needed for background check. They would not remove the charges, and management basically said they couldn't help me. I immediately called my bank and told them I was fraudulently charged, which is completely true. The bank reversed the pending charge and did not pay them.

They sent me a letter (attached) in November telling me they were going to send my account to a collection agency. Now I have received an email from them, saying I have been sent to a collection agency. I've never had this type of experience with a company. I'm completely at a loss and do not want something like this on my credit report. I have never signed anything, never used any leads they sent, never ASKED for leads to be sent to me, and was completely mislead by the original rep I spoke to."
