Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I had an appointment on Dec 29th,2011...They charged me $ 35.00 for a Comprehensive Perio Evaluation (Code D0180 ) according to my Dental Insurance Program (Cigna ) that involves using the small needle shaped instrument used to measure around the circumference of each tooth to evaluate possible perio gum desease..Upon learning what I was charged for, I knew that I had no such exam ( I have had that exam in the past ). The only exam I got at Hedgerow was 2 x-rays and the Dr. looked in my mouth with the small mirror and wrote 2 or 3 very short notes. I returned to the office requesting a refund, and explained to the person at the desk that I knew I had no such exam. I was told she would look into it. I returned a couple of days later and I was told I did have that exam, and that I would not get a refund. They refused to show me proof of the exam which would be the chart indicating the many numbers in those measurements. I was told I could not have copies and to get out of their office. I suggest to you that there are fraudently charging patients for services not received...I did call the police to Hedgerow dentistry office hoping they could help me in getting my records from the office, they said it was not in their jurisdiction to intervine in a civil matter, but the Memphis Policeman did suggest that I concact BBB and my insurance co to file a complaint. I have again contacted Cigna reguarding the problem and they said in contacting the dental office the Hedgerow people said they had charged me for a procedure that they "intended" to do in the future. This seems like a very deceitful, dishonest, and fraudulent way to run what is supposed to be a professional office. As added information, I requested Cigna assign me a different Dental office. I have since gone to this new Dental office, They too did 3 x-rays and an exam which consisted of the dentist acknowledging the appearance and condition and type of filling, when present, of each tooth and acknowledging my teeth that had been extracted years ago. As my new,very professional Dentist and her assistant were taking notes acknowledging each and every tooth, I sat there realizing the far more professional and extensive exam I was getting. My new dentist sat an appointment for a standard cleaning to be done soon. So here I am with a far, far, far superior exam very polite and professional service, and to my amazement there was NO CHARGE. Also, Hedgrrow had additionally told me that when they cleaned my teeth at a future date, I would need to be prepared to pay a total of $360. for deep root scaling....My new dentist has not implied any such periodontal deep root cleaning by the hygenist would be necessary, nor have they implied that I have any gum desease. Again I would submit, I am receiving far greater attention, far greater treatment, far greater information, far greater exams, and indeed much much greater respect as a patient in my new Mississippi dental office, with the added BONUS of no lies, no fraudulent charges and professionalism at its finest."
