"This company promised me to pay $ 83,000 to put my week escape from the month of September 2015, paid the amount of $ 2,980, but we're February 2016 and do not get response from them, I call phones that are on the page and I ask the person who made me the process but I suggest that she no longer works more for this company, call and tell me that my process alone can give me information a man named Jose, who I will call back but spend the weeks and no receipt or payment let alone call this gentleman Jose, they listed here to call or write to mail them, but write and call and receive nothing"

  • I didn't understand this complaint so I dug around a little. From looking at other complaints about this company, it appears to me that what COULD be going on is that Getaway Marketing calls and sells ads on the basis that if no-one else buys or rents the timeshare, they will...or maybe they're just very convincing and confident that they can get you the money. The key is 'plausible deniability' - you can say whatever you want on the phone and if the customer doesn't record the conversation, they don't have a leg to stand on.

    Personally I'd run a mile based on the very bad website alone, but the published Terms do state that they don't guarantee anything.

    My question is: did this company literally promise you $83,000 in rent or sale? Because that's a huge amount for a timeshare. Are you trying to recover that or the $3000 /- you spent on advertising?

    The moral of the story is:

    a) never buy a timeshare

    b) if you do, and you're trying to offload it, check your state's rules about one-party consent to recording any conversation you have about it

    c) Check the website and Terms before agreeing to anything. Look at the ads they produce. Demand verifiable statistics. And even then, timeshare sales and rentals are a fertile ground for excessive fees and even straight fraud.
