Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Owner (Gerald CrittenTON) did a complete remodeling job on my 1st & basement because of a major water damage to my home. All was just about good until I made the mistake of paying him & his company in full before the job was 100% completed. HE STARTED NOT TO SHOW UP TO COMPLETE WHAT NEEDED TO BE DONE OR THE WORK THAT WAS TO BE DONE WAS STRETCH OUT FOR WEEKS AT A TIME. AFTER DOING SOME OF THE WORK FROM A LIST THAT I HAD WRITTEN UP, I NOTICED THAT THE ELECTRICITY WAS OUT ON 1 SIDE OF THE 1ST FLOOR. I MENTIONED THIS TO HIM & HE WANTED TO BLAME THE WATER DAMAGE THAT HAPPENED OVER A YEAR AGO. IF THIS WAS THE CASE THEN THE REST OF THE HOUSE SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN WORKING. ALL THE ITEMS THAT WERE WORKING AT ONE TIME BLEW OUT AFTER MR. CRITTENTON ADMITTED THAT HE HEARD A POP WHEN TRIED TO REPLACE A FUSE. NOW THE STOVE , CEILING FAN , GARBAGE DISPOSAL , EXHAUST FAN , OVERHEAD LIGHTS& SOCKETS IN THE KITCHEN & THE LIVINGROOM NO LONGER WORK. ALONG WITH THIS I'VE NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE BASEBOARDS ISN'T ATTACHED TO THE WALL & THE BACKSPLASH COUNTER TOP ISN'T ATTACHED EITHER. THERE IS ALSO A LEAKAGE IN THE BASEMENT WHERE A ROOF WAS REPLACED OVER A DOOR AND IT NOW LEAKS WHEN IT RAINS & HAS LEAKED FOR SOME TIME BECAUSE THERE IS NOW MOLD IN THIS AREA. ALSO THE LIGHTS THAT WERE ON IN THE 2 BEDROOMS & THE HALLWAY NO LONGER ARE WORKING AND THEY WERE WHEN MR. CRITTENTINGTON 1ST STARTED THE WORK AT /ON MY HOME . I HAVE NOT SPOKEN WITH OR SEEN MR.CRITTENTON IN ALMOST 3 MONTHS."

  • While general contractors do not require a license per se under the Pennsylvania law, in the past few years the laws have changed to require that contracts register for the state’s Attorney General’s office. The Bureau of Consumer Protection within that office is responsible for enforcement of the registration requirements and the minimum insurance requirements. Because you have paid in full and have not had a completed renovation project, perhaps contacting and filing a complaint with the Bureau of Consumer Protection could assist you in your complaint.
