Veriff is a high-level global verification company that's used by a lot of fintech, marketplace, and other online companies to ensure compliance with anti-money laundering and "know your customer" regulations. It's often criticized, but criticism is usually that it failed to verify someone or that customers were concerned about privacy -not that it wrongly verified someone using a false identity.
Here we have someone who put in the work to earn some $205 via FreeCash (a WFH company based in Germany); passed the highly reputable Veriff's identity compliance check; and then mysteriously fell foul of a manual override when they tried to collect their earnings. There goes their $205. It's entirely understandable to me that someone would panic and try a different identity. (I would assume that this claimant is not rich, or they wouldn't be putting in this kind of work.)
So now the failure to pay out has gone from "we think your identity is false; we'll keep your $205" to "you used two identities; we'll keep your $205."
If you work for pay, you get paid as promised. Anything else, here in the United States of America, is considered theft of services. According to Redditors, Freecash has a lot of loopholes that result in people putting in the work that creates profit for Freecash and then somehow not getting paid for their efforts. Automated offshore or AI customer service is subsequently unhelpful.
There are two sides to every story, but since Freecash has apparently not bothered to respond in over a month, it is my opinion that the claimant is correct in asserting that they need a better resolution system. This complaint is well-written and it seems clear to me that the claimant was not attempting to defraud Freecash. Freecash, however, is enjoying the extra profits of an opaque system.
In my opinion, Freecash owes the claimant the $205.19 that they legitimately earned, plus interest. Furthermore, they need to lift the ban on the claimant and allow them to once again generate profits for Freecash.
I also believe that this company needs to rethink its very poor business practices before regulators rethink them for it.
