"To whom it may concern,
I was brought by ambulance from my home, to St Joes ER Friday evening 6/7/2014. From the time they found me at home, until I met Dr. Rivera”, I had answered everything possible to at least 5-6 EMTS, ER Nurse (s), admission Nurse, what my name was, DOB, SS#, My age, my employer, my medical history, you name it, I answered it all 5-6 times over a 60 minute period.
I was having what in told was a SEVERE PANIC ATTATCK, I couldn’t take in air properly, couldn’t walk, on my own, perspiring, disorientated, light headed, dizzy, and clearly suffering from a severe attack.
When Dr. Rivera entered my room, with yet another nurse, he stated “what brings you here today”, I replied I’m having a severe panic attack, I had just went thru a life altering situation, as I had already told every other medical staff personnel in my home, in the ambulance, and in the ER, prior to seeing Dr Rivera, he replied “well I need to hear it from you not everyone else”, at this time after suffering from what I thought was a heart attack, or stroke, I asked Dr. Rivera to please just give me something to calm me down, stop my heart and head from racing, he refused stating “when you tell me the story, then I can administer medical treatment, until then you free to leave if you don’t want to talk to me”, I said “ you know what, yeah, I don’t want to talk to you, is there anyone else here I can talk to , his smart attitude reply “noooppe”.. and walked out of my room, only stopping to say something I could hear, to the nurse, which must have been “shut the drapes”, because she turned around and did just that.
As they walked away I asked for “I need a wheel chair to get back out of here I will have my daughter pick me up and go to another hospital, Dr Rivera replied from his desk area, “Nope, you can walk, I saw you walking earlier”…., I said I walked to the toilet with the help of a nurse who gave me a urine sample bottle to fill”, and that “ I have a herniated L-5 S-1, bulging 4 and 5 dick, arthritis in my lower back, and I need a wheel chair please!!”. Again he replies “Nope!”, very deliberate, soft spoken, as if trying to agitate me????!!!!
I made my way out of the room, in a lot of physical pain (back), and obvious emotional distress, found a “walker” tucked under a counter where they must store it, grabbed it, and started to use it to walk my way out of the ER, all in the eye sight of another nurse, and security officer sitting in a small room of the hallway I was in, 2 rooms down from where they had me.
Dr. Rivera jumped up from his chair, walked over rapidly from 30-40 feet away, and pulled the walker away from me! Forcibly?? The Asian nurse that was there looked in shock!! She came rushing to my aid, held my arm, held me up, she could see I was in severe pain, couldn’t walk properly due to back injury, and now this Doctors behavior, even had here looking in awe???!!
She, the Asian nurse, actually helped me to the front door, in here act to help me, she tried grabbing a wheel chair, she could see I was in pain, and had terrible trouble walking, Dr. Rivera again intervened, & stated “no wheel chair for him he can walk out of here!”, I looked at here in amazement as she did me, she continually apologized over & over again, helped me to the front door, and walked me out, she was caring, helpful, and good to me, that Dr. Rivera, now he’s another animal all to together.
He was pompous, arrogant, didn’t want to listen to me, wouldn’t let me , or the nurse, use a wheel chair for me, pulled a walker from under me, where all my weight was on my arms hanging onto this walked, insisted “no wheel chair he can walk” to more than once nurse.
Another Nurse, as the Asian nurse and I were walking out, stopped us and said “he needs to be in a wheel chair”, the Asian nurse started to explain that Dr. Rivera said “no”, then I interjected and told her “hey, your doctor out ranks you, he told me to leave, told me, and the nurses “no wheel chair for him”, and pulled a walker out from under me, please don’t get yourself in trouble on my account”.
I took 2 short videos while there, again, I was not only suffering from a severe panic attack, but now was in severe pain with my existing chronic back pain for years, all of which that staff could see, the EMTs at my house could see, the admitting people at the ER could see, the nurses in the ER could see, but this Dr. Rivera, treated me like I slapped his mother in the face!!!??? Something was wrong with that Dr., and I want something done about it, at the very least a report filed with St Joes on his conduct towards a patient, his willingness, and ‘direct Orders” to his staff, do not help him, no wheel chair, no walker, “he can walk out of here if he doesn’t want my help”, I’m sorry, is it St Rivera Hospital??
I was also in St Joes in April this year, for another smaller panic attack, nothing like this one, I thought I was dying during this one, as did my children who were traumatized already from what they saw, me on the floor at home, unable to talk, crawling on the floor, gasping for air, etc. and the staff there was amazing, caring, took care of me, and sent me home, this guy, Dr. Rivera, wow, unbelievable behavior, they take Oaths right!!??
I am still in shock from what happened, and this doctors conduct, can you help me here??
