Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I had Direct TV back in 2009. After two years of living in Lake Worth, Florida, I shut off the service as I was moving to Athens, Georgia. Before I moved, I put the boxes by the front door and then returned them to the store in the shopping center where they told me to take them back to. I have the paper with the numbers of the boxes and they checked them off and said that was it.

I've had identity theft for 15 yearsl. I checked and saw that Direct TV said I did not return the boxes and the cost was $265. The stress of identity theft is overwhelming. The theft happened in my home and it is too long a story to tell. I did pay off over $24,000 of her debts just to get rid of her. Five years after I paid off $900 to Victory Secret, I received a new bill from them. I guess they figured, if I'd pay once, I'd pay again. However, I kept a file on each bill I paid and had copies that said "PAID IN FULL". I sent the new bill with the old bill to the Attorney General and they were forced to pay a large fine. I can not get anyone from Direct TV to listen to me. I do not have their boxes, I do have the numbers that were on the boxes. I refuse to pay something that I didn't do. The problem is their filing system. If they lost my paper work, that is not my problem, it is theirs. After 15 years of identity theft, I pay cash for everything. I presently have U-Verse and if they thought I kept Direct TV's boxes, I never would have been given their service. Can you help me."

I must clarify the return process for our equipment. All of our equipment is required to be mailed to our warehouse. We do not have authorized local stores that you can return equipment to. Taking the receivers back the dealer that was in the shopping center was not the correct action to take. Our system automatically sends you a pre-paid shipping label that included instructions on how to ship these to our warehouse. If the local dealer store you took the equipment to did not send it to our warehouse, the equipment is seen as not being returned. Local retail dealers are only authorized to sale our services and are not DIRECTV employees. We do not have the option to adjust the non-return fee as you did not return the equipment in the correct manner as indicated by the terms of our Customer Agreement (www.directv.com/legal).

    Thank you,

    Rebecca

  • In florida I was sent to a store in the shopping center nearby. I stood in line with over 25 individuals. They also had a policeman stationed at the door so check with the police department for any off time duty by a police man. I was never sent any instructions about mailing, that would have been easier, they told me where they had set up a sit for receiving returned boxes. That is what I did.
