Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"After months of my wife begging me to replace our couch of 12 yrs. I finally gave in and we headed to City Furniture in Tamarac Florida. We purchased a 5 piece Orion high-end sectional for $3500.00 and within ten days the seats began to sink down to the floor (like a hammock) and the recliner began popping open when you sat down. We called our salesperson at City Furniture to let him know what problems we were encountering concerning our new furniture and he insisted that we purchase the warranty on the furniture and they would send out a sub-contracted company called First Class Furniture to inspect and repair the broken furniture. The call to our sales person was made on 11/26. We got our appointment with First Class Furniture on 12/10. Ramon was sent out from First Class Furniture and he showed us the problem with the furniture and it is definitely a manufacturers defect. Ramon also said he had seen this Orion brand on his repair calls and there definitely is a problem with the design and the assembly of this particular product. Instead of the manufacturer using metal springs to support the bottom of the seat they chose to use elastic straps with a metal piece that holds the strap in place but will continue to slip out of the metal and the seat sinks down with nothing holding the seat up. While Ramon was at our house he called City Furniture directly and he informed them of the problem concerning the Orion furniture with us listening to his conversation so there was no confusion as to what he said to CF. We then called the General Manager of City Furniture Vick Jaine explaining the situation that the couch will continue to break even if it is repaired based on the design and we asked him to have his delivery crew come by and pick up the furniture and we would come back down to the store and pick out a different couch, well that was out of the question. I am now contacting the corporate offices to speak with Senior VP Garry Ikloa and if necessary I'll speak with Keith Koenig the President of City Furniture if we cannot resolve this problem. Bottom-line City Furniture is now knowingly selling a defective product with the intent to deceive their customers (deceptive business practices). When you finance through City Furniture they use a 3rd party GE Capital so as soon as you sign on the dotted line they are no longer obligated to their customer they have been paid in full and customers now have to deal with GE Capital and all they want is their money and are not concerned that you were dealing with a company that is well aware that the product they are selling to the public is defective and these complaints will continue as long as they carry this Orion product line."

  • I see three different people you are having issues with. I would file a complaint with the Florida Attorney General office about City Funiture and GE Capital. The third person is Orion have you tried contacting them. Sometimes is best to contact the direct manufacturer and let them know the problem that you have. Maybe they can make you happy.
