Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"8/13/12 Technician (Rich) came to repaire our stove. While repairing right front ignitor, flames came out of knob hole. He quickly put the flames out and then asked my wife to put her finger over the hole of the ignitor switch so he can turn off the electric and gas to the stove. (He should have locked this out first) He proceeded to remove the faulty ignitor swich and placed one on order. He said it would take a couple of days for the switch to come in. He put everything back in place (Turned on gas to stove and plugged it in). Instructing my wife we could use the stove but will have to light it with a match to the burner. For the following two days my wife complained she smelled gas. I didn't however on the second day of still smelling gas, we called NICOR. Nicor confirmed that we had a gas leak with a reading of 1% and immediately turned off the gas to the stove. We informed our landlord and on the third day 8/15/12 the same handyman came out with the new ignitor switch. After being confronted by my wife on how he left us in a very dangerous and hazardous situation the handy man became irate and argumentative to the point my wife called me at work to inform me of his attitude and how she felt threated and wanted to call the police. I told her to call the police and then I left my work and came directly home. My wife not wanting to have this ugly situation get worse decided to wait on calling the police and I arrived home in about 15-20 minutes. Needless to say, once I arrived home his bully attitude disappeared. When he was all done I asked him how is he going to inspect his work to ensure he isn't leaving us again with another gas leak. His reply was for us to call NICOR cause he didn't want that liability. Of course this led to a major confrontation between tennants (us) and the landlord and her handyman. This "Trusted Handyman" service is a safety risk to all of us in the community. Never appologized for leaving us in gas for two days and never owned up to his mistake. Never acknowledging the danger he put us in and the potential danger he could have put the community in with his incompetance. Mr and Mrs Diaz"
