Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I paid the Tax Group Center $3,300 for a tax resolution with the IRS involving $14,000. What I ended up with was additional fines, penalties and interest inflating my debt to the IRS to more than $15,000 and a payment plan of $265.00 per month. A payment plan is free to anyone who contacts the IRS and requests one. Had I been timely advised to do this, I could have avoided the payment delinquency fines and saved myself the expense of the resolution, which I never received. The so-called resolution got me into further debt and cost me plenty on top of it all. With some well thought out questions and some good, fair guidance I could have been informed that I would probably not qualify for a tax reduction. This information should not have cost me $3,300.

I have been offered a refund of about $1400, but as a rational consumer, why would I spend even $5.00 on something that is free? I want a full refund."

  • I am not arguing that a certain amount of work may have been performed. I am arguing that the work was unnecessary and would have been determined so by simply asking me if I had assets to cover my debt. Simple "yes" or "no" question. That this question was never asked demonstrates a lack of professionalism that cost me $3300 plus additional IRS fines and penalties. Tax Group Center's response does not change the indisputable fact that I would be MUCH FARTHER AHEAD NOW if I had avoided a phone call to them. Forget that their staff's attitude was rude, (placing me on hold till I just gave up and hung up - Jennifer Shapiro), insulting, condescending ("You know what your problem is? You worry too much" - Mr. Garcia), and dismissive ("I can't talk with you any longer. I have other people who need my help" - Mr. Garcia). I spent thousands of needless dollars and received terrible service and harmful results. Again, Tax Group's response does not change this. I intend to pursue this further.

Respondent's Counteroffer Hide
The claimant's settlement terms were rejected with the following explanation:
  • "We the Tax Group Center have received the complaint files by Marianne Sauter, please accept this as our formal response. We have been working with Marianne Sauter for some time now and have offered her a refund that is due per the invoice#261 that was issued to her. This invoice detailed the work that has been performed on her case with corresponding dates, times as well as the refund that is due back to her for any unused funds. This invoice and refund are in accordance with the fully executed Service Agreement Refund and Cancellation Section 5, as it clearly states the processes for cancelling a case and the refund. Not only have we sent her the Invoice and Mutual Release but have revised it after further case review to include a higher refund, we feel we have made every attempt to come to a mutual understanding but obviously per the Service Agreement we do need to get paid for the work that was performed by our company and staff. The refund offer that was sent to Marianne Sauter still stands; we ask that she sign, date and send back the Mutual Release that was sent to her back to our offices for processing. We look forward to resolving this in a timely manner. Thank you, Tax Group Center"

"I was given the same for my Bookkeeping but they did not acccept their own mural release then I got a call from Jennifer Shapiro very rude state she would not give me the money back and we are even - even for what? I paid they them over $25K in services that I have not Received not a statement broken down for those expenses - they should be sued and put out of business - I owed IRS over 70K in back taxes and TGC came back from IRS that I owe over $90K they put me in a worse off Condition, not received my $6K in scrupulous charges for book keeping which they never conducted - that’s $12K still waiting on other book keeping charges - that company needs to be audited inside and out and need to fire some Of the individuals and go after them individually such as Jennifer Shapiro who also promised that I would Get a refund in July of 2022 for 14-16K back in services … that is yet to happen…"
