Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Hello,

During July 17,2011 I was a member for one month and canceled by phone. Signed up through Face book. During September of 2011 I was sent two text messages asking me to sign up again. They said to respond with a y for yes are a n for no. Both times was a no. They continued to charge my Discover card through Feb or March of 2012 even so I had a dispute with them back during September of 2011. I did not use their service this time and they got all of my Discover card information from the July 17, 2011 membership. The new billing had an old e-mail address from July 2011. Discover card did not do anything to help and in fact let them continue to charge even though that they new it was fraud! WWW.Speeddate.com phone number is 1-877-328-3006CA. They have a number of complaints on the WEB."

  • Apr 25, 2012, SpeedDate.com (responding party) added:
  • We do not participate in online dispute resolution. We do not feel people should have to pay to find a resolution to their billing since banks, companies and credit card companies offer this for free.
We have never signed people up via a text messaging system. People can signup through our site, Apple's app store or Google Play.
We have a customer service department that will address any questions with the customer directly. The customer has multiple venues to contact us and to come to a resolution. This site is not one of them. They have our number or they can email us at

  • Apr 25, 2012, SpeedDate.com (responding party) added:
  • Also, upon reviewing the Credit Card Statement from this person and their account history - The person filed a claim of fraud with Discover. Discover and our company performed a fraud investigation and saw no signs of fraud. The provisional (temporary pending investigation) credit was then reversed because the claim of fraud was false.

  • Apr 26, 2012, Claiming party added:
  • Yes you have! You sent me two text messages showing a phone number! The reply to both were NO! Thank you.

  • Apr 26, 2012, Claiming party added:
  • Why wasn't the alleged text message account closed when Discover card claimed it did and investigation back in Sept of 2011. I did not sign up are use their service. They provide no service to me, which constitutes FRAUD. Speeddate is already on the Web about Rip Offs!! Discover card did nothing!! Who got the money? Both?

  • Apr 26, 2012, SpeedDate.com (responding party) added:
  • We have nearly 20,000,000 registered members. We have an A Rating with the Better Business Bureau. Once a claim of fraud, false or legitimate is made and an investigation is initiated, we no longer have access to the billing for an account. All decisions are then made through normal fraud investigation steps. We allow the Credit Card Company or the Bank make the final determination on how the account will be handled. In this case, Discover found the customer had mad false claims of fraud. This was due in part by showing the account information and the member's picture and that the member had multiple accounts. Some were free and some were not. Please consider this message closed.

  • Apr 26, 2012, Claiming party added:
  • Hello, as stated before I had a one month membership on July 17, to Aug 17, 2011 which was properly closed. Only ONE membership that was closed. The claims rep for Dicover card says, quote they have your credit card information and so it has to be legit even so it was the information from July 17, 2011, used to open a FRAUD account in September of 2011. They had my old Wed address from the first order. Discover card in Salt Lake Utah said they they did not even contact SpeeDDate.com are they would not answer their phone for them are me at al. NO SERVICE PROVIDED IS FRAUD!! tHEIR CHARGES WERE DISPUTED IN September of 2011. My Discover card was changed and they still billed me. Also, please note that In ORDER FOR ME TO SIGN IN TO MY ACCOUNT WITH DISCOVER CARD, (QUOTE )GAVE THEM PREMISSION TO CAHNGE ANYTHING THAT THEY WANT TO! Discover card is the one that has multiply accounts with my name on them. By no means is this matter closed!

  • Apr 26, 2012, Claiming party added:
  • The only means of phone service to my home during that time was by cell phone, in which they did contact me twice as stated before. It show up on their Transaction Type: MAIL/phone order!tEXT!

  • P.S. An A rating from the BBB is about as valid and valuable as a promissory note from Bernie Madoff. Hamas got an A- while Starbuck and Wolfgang Puck got F ratings from the BBB because they allegedly refused to pay for a membership. If I were Speeddate.com, Id cancel my BBB membership and use the funds to refund this person's overcharges.

  • Pretty arrogant response from Speeddate. I would never use their service just based upon their response here. In fact its what I love about PeopleClaim. Business try to hide behind the inertia they can create by refusing to respond to a legitimate customer complaint or by forcing someone to jump through endless hoops to get their money back from a credit card company or small claims court, but its harder for them to hide from the truth once its online.

I'm not saying your'e right since this is sort of their word vs yours unless you can show a contract for one month, but on the surface my bet is that you were scammed by Speeddate and I hope they will take a more constructive tone and settle with you.

Speeddate may not use "third party sites" to resolve disputes, but I bet their prospective customers and maybe a few regulators do....
