Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I have an account with this company which I used when my grandson was incarcerated in a Texas prison. Now, my son is incarcerated in Gwinette County, GA and I need to be able to talk to him. When I tried to reactivated my account I was told that it would be seventy two hours before it could be activated because I had an outstanding balance of $3.16 from March, 2012. The nearest statement I have to that date is March 26, 2012 in the amount of $10.15 which I paid on April 2, 2012. I was told that I had been turned over to a collection agency so I got the number from Securus and gave them a call. I spoke with Credit Management, located in Carrolton, TX, who told me that they had no such account turned over to them. They checked with my name, address and phone number, but found nothing. I never recieved a statement for that amount and never recieved a phone call from anyone concerning this matter. I called Securus again and told them what I had found out and they said that they still had the account, that they had not turned it over but that it would still be seventy two hours before I would be able to talk to my son. They had lied to me and refused to make it right. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was refused because it was "policy". I am not a prejudiced person but feel as though I was discrimated against because I am white and everyone I talked to was black and not very kind to me. I was in tears before I hung up. When my daughter arrived she called Securus and got a white person who imediately suggested that I open another account using another phone number which I did . So thanks to that nice man I can talk to my son tonight. Please, do something so that other mothers will not have to go through that kind of emotional trauma in the future. Life is too short!"
