Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"When my husband passed away last year, I tried to cash in the $25.000 policy I had for him but Prudential denied it for non payment. But I have not received a bill from Prudential for years Like my policy, I thought the dividend was paying off the premium each year. Then I learned that Prudential had been sending the policy to a wrong address that I discovered when my daughter helped me register my account onlline.

When I asked how did the address change in my account when I never moved, they told they didn't know how that happened. Now they refuse to discuss it with me and have removed my husband's account online. I am 89 years old and would appreciate any help you can give.

Prudential customer service agent, then I confirmed by a supervisor admitted they couldn't explain how or why our address on the policy changed since the beginning of 2001. Their records indicated that they had a conversation from someone who was not on the policy, therefore did not have the right or authority to make changes to the policy, yet our address was changed by Prudential that year.

I didn't question it because I was told that at some point after we put money into the account that policies would pay for it self when the dividends cover the premiums. Now I was shocked to learn that Prudential's inept way of doing business allowed someone to change our address. It was the reason why we have not gotten our mail from them and now $25,000.00 of my husband's policy.

I still have a policy with Prudential but I would like the collect on my husband's policy as we have paid into it and I'm the beneficiary."

  • I never thought that I'll see the day when an insurance company can deny a death benefit claim due to a change of address in their system which also caused us not to receive statements from them. Since my husband, the insured didn't make the request nor did we have a change of address for more than 40 years, I asked Prudential why they changed my address in their database. How can an insurance company terminate my husband's policy without notice to us? After we've paid into the policy for many years, I am told by Prudential that they are refusing to pay due to an unexplained change of address to my husband's policy. People Claim has reached out to Prudential for a response, but have gotten none.

I want the public to be made aware of this and what might be a dirty tactic of insurance companies to come. If Prudential can get away with not honoring the policy my husband had for me, they will do the same to others.

  • Now Prudential's excuse for not meeting their obligation to pay up by creating yet another hurdle. Now its saying that they do not need answer the question from me, the beneficiary. They will only answer to be the administrator or executrix of the said estate. All I asked was why Prudential changed the address to my husband's policy when we've never moved.

This is a very bad reflection on insurance companies moving forward if Prudential can get away with something like this.

  • I forgot to mention that it was due to the posting at PeopleClaim that Prudential came around to open dialogue with me again. Even though they now threw another hurdle my way by saying that the company won't answer the change of address question except to the executrix or administrator of my husband's estate, I appreciate what PeopleClaim has done.

  • This case was always about Prudential's refusal to answer my one question. Why were they sending our statements to the wrong address? Not receiving our statements caused the lapse of payments to them, which then became the reason they used to cancel our policies.

Once again, Prudential skirts around the issue by sending me a letter with information on a policy that was not in question, totally unrelated to this problem with no mention of my husband's policies they've cancelled.

It was always my husband's hope and wish that the modest amount in the policies would provide me with a bit more comfort for whatever time I have with my family. Prudential continues chip away at that by giving me grief instead.

  • Feb 26, 2014, Claiming party added:
  • I had a strong feeling that Prudential Life insurance company deliberately hid the truth from me about how my address was changed on our policies which ultimately became the reason why our policies lapsed in payment.

My husband passed away on 6/2/12. A month or so later, I went to surrender his two policies where I was the beneficiary, I was told the policies had no value. When my family discovered online at the insurance company's website that our address was changed, the insurance company started a cover-up that involved their employees of different levels, in different states lasted for more than a year and a half. I was told that since I was not the executrix or administrator, they cannot answer my questions about who and when made the change. When I reminded Prudential that I am also a policy holder and my address was also changed and as a policy holder, wanted to know who changed the address on my policies. They just sent me to one department after another. They even blamed the NCOA of the USPS, claiming that the NCOA made the change of address. I have a paper trial as proof.

Then on January 16th, after many letters. phone calls and mounting pressure from people and different departments I've contacted, a Prudential officer finally admitted in a conference call that our address was "inadvertently changed" by some in their company but stopped short at giving the name and settlement amount. After all the lies and intent to take all the money from our policies, they have not yet settled by paying up. Prudential is still determined to keep most of our money by creating fees and charges.

Now my grief goes on because I had to retain an attorney to get back what Prudential has stolen from our policies. Stealing and lying is wrong. Prudential Life Insurance Co. is over runned by very dishonest people and must be held accountable for all the time, pain, grief and expense the company has and still is putting me through to this day.
