Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"OK, I have been fuming about this for almost 3 years, now I have to say it. I HATE FLO!!! She lies, Progressive Insurance does not back up its claims. We had our boat insurance with them for several years and they were happy to take our premiums over that time. We never had a claim until about 3 years ago. Our 6 year old, 21 Lowes Pontoon boat was kept in a slip at a marina in Chincoteague, VA and we started having problems with engine. One day while boating, the engine stopped and we had to drift into a dock. We managed to tow it to the boat launch and get it on the trailer. We took it to a certified Mercury dealer (the engine was a Mercury Big Foot), and their Mercury mechanic worked on it. He told us the boat was definitely struck by something causing damage to the pontoon and the engine which we could see. The engine was in pieces at this point and the mechanic said we would need a new engine. We contacted Progressive and they sent an adjuster to look at the boat and engine. We were shocked when the response was this was caused by “normal wear and tear!” and not impact and they would not pay. The Mercury mechanic could not believe her assessment and argued with her, showing her the damage to the boat as well as the engine and explaining that only impact could have caused this. She refused to accept his expert opinion and turned in her report. We argued with Progressive for several weeks but they would not accept our claim. We contacted Mercury Marine in Wisconsin and their engineer said an engine of this age would not have “normal wear and tear” that would have caused this extensive damage. We went to another Mercury certified mechanic this past week and showed him the photos we have of the damage, and he also said this was definitely caused by impact and said the insurers claim of “normal wear and tear” was ridiculous. Please tell everyone you know that Progressive Insurance does not back its customers and paying them premiums is a waste of money! If anyone can point me to someone who could help us get this claim settled, please let me know."
