Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I had Pep Boys replace my radiator in April. On August 6, my transmission went out while driving on the freeway. I had to have my car towed home 26 miles. I called a transmission shop to come get my car to fix the transmission. When he came to get my car, he noticed a hose that comes from the transmission to the radiator was disconnected. Without this being connected, your transmission will be damaged with seconds. He told me that this hose should never have come undone on its own. He had me get down and look at it. He said that you would have to damage the hose pulling on it before it would come out on its own. He told me I had a faulty radiator for that to have happened. I told him I had just had the radiator replaced a few months before. He told me I should contact Pep Boys and let them know what had happened. I did call Pep Boys and was treated very rudely by Richard, the service manager. He told me I should have taken my car to them first. He told me people had messed with it and so they wouldn't be held responsible. He did offer to give me $100-200 to help pay for the damage because I was a customer. I had the transmission specialist call and speak with Richard to tell him what he found. He ended up hanging up on the mechanic.
I called Pep Boy customer complaint office. They took my statement and told me someone would get back with me. I received a call from the Orem Pep Boys from the assistant service manager, Mike. He was polite and told me Richard would be calling me . I told him that I wouldn't speak with Richard because he was very rude and condescending and that he had even hung up on the transmission mechanic. I have since dealt with Mike until Friday, August 19. He told me that a third non-biased company would take over and inspect the damage on my car. He said that I would hear from someone within 24-48 hours. On the third day, I called corporate again to let them know I am still waiting to hear from someone. On Tuesday, August 23, Richard called me and told me that the radiator distributor would be the one to file the claim against. It was their product. After thinking about it, I called him back and told him NO. I hadn't dealt with them, I had dealt with Pep Boys. Pep Boys should be the ones to make me whole and they should be the ones to make the radiator distributor pay them back. He said that was their policy to go that route. Poor, poor business practice. To make the customer go through the manufacturer when Pep Boys bought the product. I'm still trying to get my car's transmission bill paid for and I don't have my car back yet. I am now waiting on the radiator business to inspect the damage instead of Pep Boys. I am so upset with Pep Boys. They're not standing behind their work or customers."
