Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"On August 13,2014 I requested service of my Whirlpool Wash Machine from Milwaukee Appliance of Germantown, Wisconsin. I explained the machine was making a noise and that I had found a nut under the wash machine. I told them it looked like something worked it self loose. The repairman came out the next day and fixed the problem in 10 minutes. He said he replaced a " gear shift cam and drive pulley". He left immediately without giving me the replaced part and charged me $274.50. He would not comment on how the nut could have come loose. It is unreasonable to believe he could replace a part in such a short time. The part he said was replaced sounded like a lot of B.S..I believe he put the loose nut back where it belongs and was dishonest about the service he performed. I believe I am entitled to a reasonable refund for this "shady" service. Since this incident I wrote Mr. Thomas Ottow, General Manager, of Milwaukee Appliance. He did not respond to my letter. I have tried to contact him by telephone " twice" in the past two months. He has not returned my call. During all this I wrote I wrote Mr. Jeff Fettic CEO of Whirlpool Corp. in Benton Harbor , Michigan. I explained My concern in detail and he did respond back to me on September 5, 2014. I received a very generic letter but he said nothing could be done. I wrote him again and he would not acknowledge that the loose nut was not an assembly problem. I would appreciate anyones help to resolve this issue. I am looking for reasonable compensation as I believe I was taken advantage of. I am 74 years old and retired."

  • On October 6,2014 I received a telephone call from the business owner and not the General Manager. My response was that the service was performed in an unlikely time frame for replacing a CD activater, gear shift cam and a pulley kit and loose nut. It is my opinion that the nut was secured and nothing more was done. The service charge of $274.50 was grossly exaggerated. The work done was completed in 10-15 minutes from start to finish. I believe I deserve a partial reimbursement that is fair to both parties.

  • Oct 14, 2014, Milwaukee Appliance (responding party) added:
  • Owner did contact about complaint. This is the amount that we charge for this type of repair, and it can be done in 10-15 minutes, by a trained and knowledgeable technician. Machine is working properly, there are no issues with it, so job is completed to the fullest.

  • Oct 18, 2014, Claiming party added:
  • This Whirlpool wash machine is two years old and no longer under warranty. I looked under the machine where the repair was made. It all looked brand new as it is and difficult to say what if anything was replaced. I still claim nothing was replaced and the nut resecured and job done. It is not possible to replace all those parts and have them in hand in under 15 minutes.

The claimant's settlement terms were rejected with the following explanation:
  • I disagree with the explanation / grounds provided

"Customer is accusing our company of not replacing the parts. Machine is working perfectly. Parts were replaced in a timely manner by an experienced technician. This is what we charge for this job and are rejecting any kind of offer for this customer. Cam and pulley need to be replaced due to the parts being stripped when nut fell off. "
