Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Our home is 11 years old, we are the third owners. We moved in to this place with no one telling us the hidden repairs that were hiding just out of our site when we looked at it. We’ve had to screw down the siding as it was coming off in a lot of places. We re-caulked and painted it as the paint was almost gone already.
A year living in a marlette home we started to notice a lot of roofing shingles lifting up which didn’t seem normal but I’m also not a roofer. Another year went by and had a decent wind storm come through and knocked off about 10 sections of roofing with one push of a wind. Our garage shelters our home from the wind we get here and it didn’t loose any shingles. We had two different contractors come out and tell us the the same thing that the roof was not installed right and was installed with the wrong material. They used craft paper not underlayment, then they used staples to hold shingles down not the typical nails you use to hold it down with.
Our back door was leaking pretty severely but I got that fixed with no moisture coming in now. The light switches in house when turning on and off would make a hissing or buzzing sound. I didn’t know if it was the the way they connected wires or if it was the light switch itself so I just redid all of them to a higher quality then they had installed them. When you open up a gang box wether on an exterior
Or interior wall there’s a huge draft and in the winter time you can feel the wind blowing right into the house which tells me they did a very poor job insulating this home.
When you buy a house you take a gamble on knowing how well it was built. I would think modular homes since they have to go through all the hoops just like a stick built would have to be quality checked to make sure it’s
done right and up to code. This house shows me that there’s a problem with the people who should be doing there
Jobs as building code inforcment. Not
All but some as I’m in the construction field myself, they can easily get complacent and sign off on homes and there not even checking them like they should. Some of them don’t even know there codes or what there even looking at. I know there’s alot of them out there doing there job right also and I’m not talking about those ones. But I’ve witnessed first hand the lack of knowledge and care for there job and it shows in my home and how poor practices were not caught and dealt with."
