Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"We bought a car on 1/15 and headed home, on our nearly 2hr drive after taking a room overnight in Bangor at our expense. The “fixed” check engine light came on and “fixed” cruise control wouldn’t work.
Gateway Auto owner Dan still said he would fix the issues. He arranged for his “mechanic” to pick up the car and return it at a mid point off the highway between Bangor and Hodgdon. Again, the “fix” didn’t work by the time we arrived home.
He said to have my mechanic figure it out and he would go good for the parts and repair with his parts. My mechanic immediately found the problem. The car was sold to us with a bad catalytic converter.
Subaru’s have multiple production changes in a year at times and the wrong part was ordered/sent, causing Dan to have to ship it to our mechanic and back again. Now we are a good 8 months or more for all this to take place due to extremely poor communications and weekly fired and hired staff with endless hollow apologies at Gateway Auto. I would call weekly and Dan returned my calls about 5% of the time requiring me to go through his staff at Gateway Auto endlessly.
Finally he agreed to have my mechanic order the correct part and install it. Once installed we faxed the repair reciept and were immediately stonewalled by Dan and his staff at Gateway Auto with responses like, “we told Dan”, "We understand" and "he'll be in next week" etc..
It became painfully obvious that Dan was not going to follow through so we paid our mechanic the $1330 and hoped Dan would honor his word. Again weekly calling to Gateway and Dan offering to subtract Dan’s shipping and troubles and take what he felt was fair. Run around from Gateway Staff and still no communications from Dan."
