Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I purchased a airline ticket from American Airlines June 6, 2016 for my daughter to come and visit. I also purchased the insurance for reimbursement if the ticket wasn't used. My daughter was unable to come so I contacted expedia and they told me that she would have to supply a medical excuse from the doctor, a death certificate, etc., in order for the reimbursement to be valid.

I then wrote a letter to American Airlines about this and I have not received a response from them.

I feel that this is a rippoff and a fleecing of America.

How many times does this happen to people? I would like to have some response from the airlines and be able to use this ticket in the future if they are not going to reimburse me. And I think everyone should be made aware of expedia.

Please let me know if this is a valid issue?

Thank you, Tracy Sabol"

  • It would be nice if American or Expedia gave you a ticket credit, but I really doubt that they owe it to you unless you bought really exceptional travel insurance.

Your contract will include covered reasons, which usually would be serious illness with a doctor's note, a family death, etc. If you want to be covered for just changing your mind, you need to buy a flexible ticket.

Sorry this happened, it's a hard lesson to learn, and I hope they'll take pity on you since you obviously weren't aware of the restrictions.
