Claimant says:
"Hired e-z movers to move me on 5/15/17, 1/2 block from previous address. Quoted me a price and charged me $300 more.  Movers were late (after 4 pm) and refused to bring my box spring and couch up to the new apartment claiming that both pieces were too big. They left my furniture in front of the building at 10 pm and I have photos to prove it.  While they advertise that they have free storage for one month, they refused to store my furniture causing me to buy a new sofa.  My friend and son brought the box spring upstairs.  The engineer of the building was aware of the situation. Had I been aware of Yelp, I would have known to stay clear of this company as they have terrible reviews. Once I got situated in the new place, I also realized that items were missing.   • The movers working for your company left my sofa and box spring in front of the building. I have the pictures to prove it, as well as the engineer who works for the building. In addition, I asked the movers to take my furniture to your storage facility, as the company offers free storage for one month. They refused. I would like to be reimbursed for my couch, as my friend and son brought the box spring up through the back at 11 pm that night using a rope.

Hoisting services must be arranged in advance as it requires a specialized crew and equipment. As well as the necessary legal and liability waivers for potential damages caused by the hoisting. Although the storage is provided free of charge for 30 days, there is a charge for the additional labor to unload your goods and the time it takes to travel from your location to our storage facility. You refused those charges.

    We must respectfully and politely decline your request for reimbursement.

The claimant's settlement terms were rejected with the following explanation:

  • "Ms. Wells, I'm sorry to hear about your dissatisfaction with the services provided. You were billed based on an hourly rate, as all local moves within Illinois are billed, and the total you paid reflects the total time spent moving your goods. We worked for 4 and a half hours at $139.00 per hour, and we charged a flat rate of $69.50 to cover the truck, mileage, fuel, etc. Upon delivery, you were provided a final bill of lading to sign; the delivery acknowledgment you signed states, "DELIVERY ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: SHIPMENT WAS RECEIVED IN APPARENT GOOD CONDITION EXCEPT AS NOTED IN INVENTORY AND SERVICES ORDERED WERE PERFORMED". At this time, we must politely decline to reimburse any portion of your move cost as all charges have been found to be valid and authorized by you during the move.

    We have, however, sent you a claim form to fill out and submit to our office, if you choose to proceed with the damage/loss claim.
    "
