Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I signed up for a store card with Bloomingdales just before Christmas. As I was inputting my social security number etc. a screen popped up asking if I'd like an American Express card. I declined. I even commented to the store associate that I sure didn't need another credit card; he said, "Oh, just decline it."

So imagine my surprise when I received an American Express card from Bloomingdales in the mail. I had heard from a friend and former Macy's associate that Macy's uses deliberately confusing screens to get people to sign up for cards: I'd asked her about it as I'd been confused when I received a Macy's Amex. However, I hadn't made a fuss in that case because I wasn't absolutely positive that I'd hit the right button. This time I'm positive that either I declined the card or the screen was so confusingly worded that few people would get it straight.

This is an absolutely outrageous practice that should be investigated and shut down. And Bloomingdales executives should be ashamed of what appears to be a deliberate attempt to get customers to sign up for unwanted credit cards."
