Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"We moved in on April 8th, 2016 paying a total rent of $1482.00/month for a 1 bedroom apartment and garage. We agreed to this amount but this is top market dollar for an apartment and we feel the apartment should provide the equitable livability. We did our first load of laundry and the washer tore up a sweater. The dry takes two ninety minute cycles to dry. Both washer and dryer are 30 years old (or older). We have been told that most of the renovated apartments have new washer and dryers. We have repeatedly been to the office to request replacements. We were told that they have to maintain a certain budget. We were told that they were going to swap out the dryer and that has still not happened. Windows screen is missing a clip so bugs fly in. Window in living room was dirty when we moved in. Front door deadbolt plates and door knob screws are stripped and fall out when you open or close front door. Today we woke up at 5:15 am to find our room, bedroom closet, hallway and laundry room flooded with water. Called emergency number at 5:15 to report flooding. Maintenance man showed up at 5:50 said a sprinkler head broke and flooded our front entrance. He said an abatement crew was on the way. It is 7: 15 am and we are still sitting in water. The front door stoop is not secured nor caulked and rubber seal is worn completely down which allowed all the water from our walk down entrance to flood into the apartment. We have had to repeatedly ask for the move-in requests made (mailbox key, storage room key, garage walls bashed in, screen in living room, dryer, etc.). Some of these were addressed but it took weeks."
