Claimant says:
"I have had their insurance since September 2011 because Cobra was too expensive and since I had to retire at the age of 63 because my daughter left her responabilitys and I needed to raise her kids and I do not qualify for medicare it seemed to be the best choice! Little did I know that Assurant does not pay their claims, also it was short term insurance which I was lead to believe would take me to age 65 and at which time i could get medicare. So I thought I was saving money paying half what cobra was but when I had an MRI done 3/16/12 looking for reasons of dizziness which was not pre-exisisting but started in Oct. 2011, I paid [492.00] out of pocket assuming that Assurant would cover the rest! Also in April 2012 I ended up in the ER thinking I WAS COVERED BUT MAKING SURE I CALLED ASSURANT TO make sure it would be covered and that is when they told me I was not covered that my insurance ran out 3/17/12 and was a short term insurance, I knew it was short term told that it would cover me till I was 65 May 2013."

  • Assurant Health has contacted Ms. Garrett to let her know we have received her request. The issue is currently under review. HIPAA requires that we respond directly to Ms. Garrett. We will send a letter directly to Ms. Garrett once a determination has been made. We anticipate a decision no later than 6/11/12.
