Claimant says:
"Scotty's Satellite Service called me at home telling me that it was an authorized provider of Dish Network and DirecTV "just wanting to help me save money." The company is based in Ohio but for some reason is making sales calls to North Carolina.

Oddly, I had just confirmed with the FTC that my "Do Not Call" registration was still in force since I've received so many sales calls. Yes, I'm still registered on the Do Not Call list, and yes, Scotty's is violating the law by calling me.

Apparently Scotty's Satellite Service has called many people on the Do Not Call list, and many of those callees have informed Scotty's about the Do Not Call list. Scotty's continues to call. As I understand it, each violation of the Do Not Call list can carry fines of up to $16,000.

The salesman told me that the company's out of Portsmouth, Ohio. The address shows as residential. Another address found widely online doesn't check out as belonging to Scotty's, although address checkers can be wrong. The FTC is pretty serious about fines for violating the Do Not Call list--and thank goodness for that."

  • Scotty's request for 'more time' was particularly insulting when they haven't bothered to respond. Not even an apology? That's too much? Looks like I need to send this to the FTC. I am so LIVID about all these various bozos invading my home via my phone. I'm even more livid when I think about all the vulnerable people who aren't as savvy as I am about sales calls and fraud.
