Roger R. Albert vs. Viking Granite 33-39 John St. New Britain, Ct 06051

Inferior work done by Viking Granite. Employees lied to client, did not measure correctly and installer took it upon himself to make a seam in the backsplash. We did not get what we paid for.

Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Your Sales person, Cindy Wilson lied to us when we went in to your place of business. We chose a piece of granite for our kitchen counter top. We told her we did not want a seam in the counter. She assured us that the piece of granite was certainly big enough so there would be NO seam.
Your technition came a week later to take measurements for the template. He took incorrect measurments and we ended up with a 2" gap under our window sill. Our contractor gave the correct measurement when he signed the contract. The technition also told us that we had to have a seam in our counter. We called Cindy Wilson and told her what the technition said. We were asked to come back to your business to look at a computer layout of the counter. Cindy and Pam assured us that it would not be visible. On the computer it was not visible - on our counter top it is very visible. And when the installers came to install the backsplash one of the installers made another seam in the backsplash which does not match the visible seam on the counter top. So, we ended up with two visible seams which do not match. We told the installers we did not want a seam in the backsplash, the backsplash under our window sill was not installed because the technition did not include it in his measuring. Our contractor contacted Ms. Wilson to tell her that there was a seam in the backsplash rather than one entire length, the measurement under the window sill was incorrect. He was told by Ms. Wilson that there was not enough of the granite left to make the corrections. But she did have another piece of the same granite that they could use, BUT, it would cost us another $2,000. We paid almost $4000 for shoddy and inferior workmanship. The errors were made when Ms. Wilson lied to us, when the technition did not take the correct measurements and when an installer decided on his own that there should be a seam on the backsplash. We expected to be treated fairly and we were not.
We are honest people and expect honesty from a company, we do not lie or cheat anyone as your company did.
We will never do business with your company again, nor will our contractor. We had two other possible customers who were waiting to see our counter top before they decided on a company to do counter tops in their homes; after they saw the inferior job you did on ours they dismissed your company completely.
We were treated unfairly, lied to, cheated by a technition who did not take correct measurements. We did not make mistakes, YOUR Company did. We are very unhappy with the sloppy job you did in our kitchen.
We know for a fact that your installers have tools to carry large pieces of granite - our kitchen is an open area - several men showed up to install our counter top - they could have used tools to carry the entire (seamless) piece of granite - we have an 88" x 88" opening into our kitchen from our deck. The several large men that showed up to install it could have carried one entire piece very easily.
You are not a reputable company and your employees lie, cheat and were not very professional with us.
We expected honesty and a professional job."
