Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Paul Edgecomb, M.D. was my treating physician for several years, in 2006 I was treated for pain when urinating, pain in my left lower back and occasional blood in my urine. This man ran lab work on my urine, blood and had several CT Scans performed for the next two years. He always said my labs were normal and the CT Scans were negative. In January 2008 I was hospitalized for abdominal pain where more X-rays, CT Scans, and MRI's were run and then discharged with a diagnosis of "You are Fine" by the hospitalist associated with Thunderbird Internal Medicine, and Paul Edgecombe, M.D..

For the next few weeks I was throwing up more and more everyday and unable to keep even water down, my husband took me day after day to the Banner Thunderbird Medical Center, finally on or about the 10th of February and nearly ten days of being denied care because I did not have a fever, Bruce spoke to the ER Doctor. He told the Doctor if I was denied care again without any tests being run he would have the Doctor arrested for murder as I was sick. My stomach was swollen as though I was pregnant even though I have had a partial Hysterectomy in 1988, the ER Doctor made a comment that I was probably pregnant. He admitted me to the ER and they ran blood tests and did a CT Scan. I was admitted to the hospital within the hour and after several days of antibiotics I was operated on by Dr. De Soto, and was informed my gallbladder had blown up and there were several nickel to quarter size gallstones present.

I was in and out of the hospital several times during the next five or six weeks when at one point while in the X-ray department two young students from a local college tore the tubing of a bag that was for drainage of the bile duct tube. They placed tape around the tear and said nothing to anyone. During the last hospitalization I mentioned to the nurse that the bag was leaking bile all over me and that there was a tear in the tubing from the incident. They had the shift supervisor come in and repair the bag and he made a comment that I needed to be more careful in the future when draining the bag. I replied that I was not the individual who tore the tubing in the first place, it was done by the X-ray department staff shortly after the surgery.

After that incident I was getting ready to be discharged when three doctors and two nurses came in and stood at the end of the hospital bed. My husband, Bruce was sitting in a chair next to the bed, when after several minutes went by and these five people looked like one of their best friends just died. I asked what is wrong, you guys look terrible, one of the doctors said they found something in one of my recent CT Scans that was not there the week prior. Then they all started to leave, I blurted out what could possibly be worse than what I have just been through. In a joking manner I asked them to stop and tell me what was wrong, as they were acting like I had cancer or something.

They all stopped and looked back with a look as though they were relieved that I knew. At that instant I said are you kidding me, you have got to be joking. The hospitalist who was in charge of my care said I had a "Fast growing tumor in my left kidney and it had never been in any other CT Scans." They felt that it was Renal Cell Carcinoma. I was stunned and asked when the surgery to remove it was being scheduled, not at this time you just had major surgery and you are to weak. You need to see a oncologist.

In May 2008 I had surgery to remove part of my left kidney by Dr. Stewart a urology surgeon.

Paul Edgecomb had decided that he was not going to tell his patient she had a tumor in her left kidney in 2006, after telling me I was fine and there was no reason why I should have pain in my left lower back. This man lied to his patient, then lied about the existence of the tumor and the gallstones, as a result I came very close to dying.

I have never run a temperature higher than 100.8 degrees and I have in fact had a Doctor in Wyoming shake my hand stating that he wanted to meet the most "liveliest Dead person" he had ever met when his assistant recorded my temperature at 95.1 degrees. There seems to be a serious problem in the medical community that states everyone has a normal temperature of 98.6 degrees when they are well. In actuality that is the average body temperature, which means there are those of us who when we feel good have normal body temperature of 95.1 degrees and those who may have 100.1 degrees. This means that when my temperature is at 99.9 I am very sick and the person who run's 100.1 who may come in with a 101 degree temperature is actually not sick, but that individual will be admitted to the hospital while I am sent home to die.

This means that a person who is vomiting non-stop and doubled over in pain with a temperature of 99.9 degrees and who looks pregnant really should not be turned away without any lab work done at all. They should not have to hear ignorant comments to the affect that they are just wanting pain medication then shoved out the door.

Now I have been given a document from Arrowhead Hospital just over two months ago, that was dated in 2009 that was sent to Arrowhead Hospital by Banner Thunderbird Hospital in 2009 while I was a patient in Arrowhead Hospital with a diagnosis of "Renal Cell Carcinoma with Metastasis to the Lung." I have never heard that diagnosis cross the lips of my then doctor while in the hospital or after being discharged by the hospital and having follow-up care by Paul Edgecomb, M.D..

You may wonder why I do not refer to Paul Edgecomb as a doctor, well it is simple in my opinion he is not a doctor. He has made it almost impossible for me to get treatment anywhere in the city of Phoenix or the surrounding area. I put my trust in an individual and asked him to provide medical care when I went to see him what he did is unreal even today. My trust is non-existent and at that I am terrified to go see any doctor.

The doctors I have seen recently continue to comment about my unfounded fear and ranting's about what was done and then they too say I am fine. With this diagnosis of 2009 and knowing I have had "Zero" treatment, is my fear unjustified. I do not believe so. I believe that Banner Thunderbird failed by not stating the truth and Paul Edgecomb failed by straight out lying to his patient and refusing to treat a life threatening illness such as cancer not once, but twice by these individuals this is beyond my imagination as to why it was done.

I was on a lot of pain medication at this time and I was called a drug addict, do you think a drug addict would ask the nurse, doctor or anyone else why they are in pain and not for pain medication. I was continuously asking why am I in so much pain. Do not give me something for the pain if I do not need it, please treat the cause of the pain. Since I do not take any more than extra strength tylenol six times a day now and I am in pain every second of every day I would not say I was an addict ever, especially since I quit cold turkey. I have had more doctors offer pain medication while saying "you are Fine" then ever before, if I am so Fine why push the pain medication on someone who is healthy and has nothing wrong? At that I am allergic to Morphine, Methadone, Oxycontin, and oxycodone my question is why ask if I want something they know I am allergic too.

I know that I have two fractured vertebra L-2 and L-3 from 2010 and neuropathy in my feet and legs that keeps me up all night because it has gone untreated. By the way none of the lab tests have ever shown a positive overdose or more medication than what was prescribed by my doctors.

I recommend you get the Medical records from Paul Edgecomb's former practice Thunderbird Internal Medicine, located in Glendale, Arizona, just so I do not get accused of creating a document that is in their computer. If these individuals did their professional best care I might not try to pursue this incident but none of them did."

I am getting another copy of my medical records from Thunderbird Internal Medicine in Glendale Arizona later today. I will be scanning the 2006 CT scan results within the next few days as well as the note made by this doctor that stated that there was a tumor in my left kidney, and he was not going to tell his patient. He was going to have additional CT scans performed to make sure it was not a spot on the film. He had me go to several different imaging centers as well as Banner Thunderbird Hospital to avoid anyone knowing that that tumor existed. I had over 50 CT scans done in that two year time frame. The standard is not more than four CT scans in a given year and only to monitor possible malignant tumors. CT scans that are done in excess of four can cause cancer themselves.

Medicare and Tri-care for life were both billed for his treatment, or lack of treatment as well as for the CT scans.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.

  • This is the document that shows "Renal Cell Carcinoma with Metastasis to Lung" I have had "NO" treatment for this condition as of this date - June 12, 2013. This information was sent from Banner Thunderbird Hospital to Arrowhead Hospital in 2009. Paul Edgecomb was my primary care physician at the time who did follow-up care after both hospitalizations.

  • Paul Edgecomb, I understand that you feel that moving to the East coast to escape any form of lawsuit that may have been available to your former patient is a great idea. Your medical licence is issued from the Great State of Arizona, where if I chose I can and will file a formal complaint in order for them to take action against an individual who felt it more important to lie to their patient. Then there is the issue of the prescription that you authorized in September 2010 after you had "Fired" your patient in April 2010. I still have the prescription bottle with your "Name, The Control Number, Date and The change to the amount of medication issued." Feel free to think that New York is out of reach for the Arizona Medical Licencing Board to be unable to have a conversation with you.

    Thank you.

  • I have been trying to get answers from the staff at Thunderbird Internal Medicine for over two very long years, with the following response from their staff, "it is not our fault," " Paul Edgecomb no longer works here." Then there are the rude comments that I should not be upset, angry or "File a Lawsuit if you do not like what this clinic did." Then they hang-up on me and refuse to address the issues that clearly show that this Thunderbird Internal Medicine Clinic "Failed" to provide care that they charged my medical insurance for providing. That insurance is not free, it costs me $150.00 per month and it is Medicare and Tri-care for Life. That is nothing short of "Fraud." When I went to this clinic expecting them to treat my condition what ever it was, and in my case it was Renal Cell Carcinoma that was not treated and I was lied to about its existence for two years. Then in 2009 this clinic and its Doctor, that is a loose term as when someone and his staff blame me the patient for them not speaking up and informing me about a life-threatening illness, that is the fault of the medical staff. I trusted this clinic to tell me the truth and all they have done is back-peddle and lie. They lied not once but twice. The document that was attached is very clear that Banner Thunderbird sent the Renal Cell Carcinoma with Metastasis to the Lung to many doctors and hospitals yet failed to tell the patient about the Lung Cancer for four years. I still do not have any treatment or definitive diagnosis as I have heard since receiving this document 2 months ago that it is not true. My question is if it is not true why did it get passed on to Arrowhead Hospital and two other hospitals as well as about 20 or more doctors. That is my fault Why? I am not a medical professional nor do I wish to be, and the trust I have sounds like this - Trust No One and Verify Everything. The fear I have coursing through my body is justified and the people who created that fear are Paul Edgecomb, Daniel Schlosser, Banner Thunderbird Hospital and Thunderbird Internal Medicine. This is the way that I will discuss this incompetent action as I feel that the pain and suffering is so great it is never going to go away. If you wish to make this go away without me being told I cannot tell others about what happened by these people you decide how this can be made right. As far as I am concerned the remedy is simple admit to what was done to me as well as pay every penny that was given to these businesses by Medicare and Tri-care for Life back to them as you collected payment for treatment and timely, professional, compassionate care. It is obvious none of that took place. These people padded their pockets at the very high cost of my health and well-being. You can also provide me with proper medical care from this day forward with a doctor and medical facility of my choosing with these individuals footing the bill. I had my gallbladder blow-up because no one paid attention to the high liver enzyme tests in October/November 2007. Then you decided that my temperature was reason for not treating me after my gallbladder blew-up resulting in gangrene. That Banner Thunderbird Hospital, Daniel Schlosser and Paul Edgecomb caused. You cannot justify the actions of what was done or in this case ignored. A public apology is the only remedy to this group of individuals doing what they did which has resulted in me having no proper medical care. Paul Edgecomb, Daniel Schlosser, Thunderbird Internal Medicine and Banner Thunderbird knew what they did was fail to treat me for cancer, gallbladder disease and gangrene. Then to add insult to injury I was not given critical documentation in a timely manner that would have given me an opportunity to sue these individuals thus making this forum and eventually the Arizona Medical Board formal complaint necessary. I have only ever asked for answers to why these actions were done in the past. That was me, the so called angry, hateful person being unreasonable according to everyone of these individuals. Is a lawsuit or your licences revoked a better fix in your minds. In my opinion that is you not stepping up and doing the right thing and now that this information is about to go public, you now want to resolve the issues in a face-to-face meeting. You had plenty of opportunities to do that in the last two plus years and as recently as a week ago when your staff member hung-up on me. I have been extremely patient and have been told "Not My Fault" way to many times and now you think it is a good time to address my concerns Seven Years after the tumor in my left kidney and the nodules were first identified by Paul Edgecomb. My patience ran out when your staff member hung up on me on Monday, 17 June 2013, stating that Thunderbird Internal Medicine and its Doctors did nothing wrong. Yes, you all made some very bad choices and deserve no chances to resolve this issue any other way but through this method. Thank you, Pamela Cameron.

  • Jun 19, 2013, Claiming party added:
  • Please, tell me the person who for over two years has tried to resolve this situation in a civil manner by asking for answers to how such a diagnosis could be sent to three hospitals, and countless doctors by this office saying this diagnosis of Renal Cell Carcinoma with Metastasis to the Lungs and Banner Thunderbird Hospital, yet telling me it never existed is a resolution. Everyone makes decisions in their lives and you all decided for what ever reason that hanging up on me was your determination of how this was going to be resolved. I have only ever asked every one for one thing - How did this diagnosis happen to be sent out to everyone and "Never" pass over the lips of Doctor Paul Edgecomb and Daniel Schlosser while they were knee deep in providing me care. I fail to understand where resolution includes saying those questions were not a result of my actions and not yours. I am sorry that you believe a person should not be told the truth when they ask for more than two years what happened. What I have been told is that I am unjustifiably angry and frustrated because of what was done by these individuals. Lets take a look at that statement and break down the reason for what you describe as unjustified anger. I went to see Dr. Paul Edgecomb for medical care, he ran a CT scan, found a tumor, made the comment you are fine, yet wrote that he noted a tumor in my left kidney and was not going to tell his patient about her condition. He decided to run more CT scans to monitor its growth. Two years later Banner Thunderbird Hospital and Daniel Schlosser decide to tell me my health is fine while ignoring High Liver Enzyme test results and discharged me from the hospital. My gallbladder blew-up, I ended up with gangrene and then that blessed diagnosis of Renal Cell Carcinoma that had to be pried out of five people and even then they said it never appeared in any CT scans that had been done before. Then there was the decortication of my lung for a deadly infection that if I did not undergo emergency surgery I would die. Not angry yet, I believed every word that these people said. Then came the decision to get my medical records and fined out what really caused this Doctor and Thunderbird Internal Medicine to fire me as their patient. I was told I missed six appointments, and simply blew off their care. That was not quite true either, I was in the hospital for five of the appointments as an admitted or about to be admitted patient some 24-48 hours prior to the appointment and Thunderbird Internal Medicine was sent E-mails by none other than Daniel Schlosser who had admitted me to Banner Thunderbird Hospital. I guess I was expected to leave the hospital just to go see a doctor so he could tell me I was "FINE." The sixth appointment was in April 2010 the day that my mother unexpectedly lapsed into a COMA. Not angry yet. April 17, 2010 while on the phone to my older sister who was telling me that I needed to get to my mothers bedside as she was not expected to survive the night, Dr. Paul Edgecomb decided that it was time to fire me as a patient. Now I was confused still not angry. When I got the medical Records from Thunderbird Internal Medicine in late 2010 and saw the original note about the tumor, then I got angry as it was obvious as to why I was fired and every doctor I saw after that was sent information saying I was a hypochondriac and angry. When in fact I was denied proper care for a potentially deadly illness for one and only one reason - Medicare will payout more for a cancer treatment or diagnosis than for and individual treating a condition before it gets to that point. You may feel that denial is resolution but I do not especially when I look at the documents that I have posted on this site as well as having handed to an employee at Thunderbird Internal Medicine last week who had Laura the records clerk initial and date it just to make sure that my bases were covered. Daniel Schlosser works out of that clinic now and while he may work out of the Indian School Office, he also works out of Suite F-1 in Glendale where Paul Edgecomb also worked until moving to Suite C-1. This issue is NOT RESOLVED, and will not be unless these individuals step up and admit to the following: 1. Paul Edgecomb lied about the existence of a tumor in 2006, 2. Daniel Schlosser lied about my condition in January 2008, when the lab work was positive for High Liver Enzymes that showed a serious illness, 3. Daniel Schlosser, Paul Edgecomb and Banner Thunderbird Hospital lied about the existence of the Tumor and how it just "Magically" showed up in 2008. They also lied about the seriousness of my condition downplaying the gangrene that made me very ill and almost cost me my life. and 4. there is the Renal Cell Carcinoma with Metastasis to the Lung diagnosis that everyone knew about except the one person who should have known about it, the patient. Now lets see I am definately not expected to be even a little upset as all these individuals did was not do the right thing as outlined by the Hipochratic Oath that they took and I did not. I am not expected to be upset that I have yet to hear even a simple "I am sorry for what was done, we made a mistake and what can we do to make it right." You still feel just hanging up the phone when all I wanted was to hear that statement from someone other than Me. Ask yourselves this, did I do my job today, did I tell my patient the truth about their condition and did I admit wrong doing when I saw I made a mistake and except responsibility for my actions. The answer to these questions is No you did not, you have made no effort to resolve anything. Is it so difficult for the words "I am sorry" to slip out of your mouth, I find myself saying those words at least fifty times a week. That would have resolved this dispute over two years ago, but you have chosen to discredit my reputation and define me as a hypochondriac and angry. When I think of everything and look back over the last seven years and the actions taken be these individuals I would define those actions as a clear definition and picture of some very angry people who have done nothing to resolve this issue. Now my terms are very clear, an apology will not be sufficient that is me making you take responsibility for your inaction and fraudulent behavior. If the American Public found out that Medicare and Tri-Care for Life was paying for medical care for a cancer patient that was never given they may take issue with your actions and that may be what it will take for this to be resolved. Ask yourselves this - If the Renal Cell Carcinoma with Metastasis to the Lung is not correct how is it in my records and is that not as bad as having that diagnosis and not being treated for it, especially since it is a second cancer diagnosis. Then ask did you fail your patient and the American Taxpayer by excepting Government payment for making such mistakes. Thank you. Pamela Cameron

  • I made an attempt to contact this office and resolve this issue and was told they were unable to talk and that they have resolved this issue. This issue is Not Resolved and based on the response from all of the individuals involved it will not be resolved. Again my request was simple and basically very inexpensive. I requested that Mr Fine from the Banner Health Care Facilities just say one sentence, and it is this simple and very free. "I am sorry my medical facility (Banner Thunderbird Hospital) made a mistake when treating you, how can we make this right by you and what can I do to help you." My answer is and would have been thank you for the apology and I do not need your assistance, but thank you again for the offer. Is it so difficult for these people to except that I wish them "NO Ill Will" or do they not believe that in the world today someone simply wants an apology and not to embarrass them or their business. It is sad that they are so wrapped up in not understanding my wish is only to let them know that the words I am sorry are worth more to me than any amount of money they could or would spend to prove that what happened was anyone's fault but theirs. I did what was right by asking for help when I was sick and they knew that there were conditions that existed that required medical treatment and made the decision not to provide the treatment that almost cost my life and may still cost my life. When I see the commercials for the Cancer Treatment Centers of America and in my heart I know I will never be able or allowed to receive treatment from them because; 1. I am a 100% disabled Veteran with Medicare and Tri-Care for Life as my insurance, this treatment center does not except either of my insurances. Then they only treat Stage III and / or IV Cancer, that is the hero complex that unless someone fails to tell you that they found a tumor or as in my case decides you never need to know, your chance of survival is slim to none. It is very rare that someone will survive Stage IV Cancer. The commercials all have one thing absolutely right - the fear that courses through your mind, body and sole when you hear or read the diagnosis of Cancer is Terrifying. I have worked on missiles while in the military and knowing what can happen in an attack with those weapons is nothing compared to what I feel when I think that people wrote that diagnosis down four years ago and decided I did not deserve to be told. My mind feels numb at just what I must have done to these individuals to warrant this decision to let me die. Please do not let these people get by with there actions, this can happen to you or one of your friends or family. That is why I want this made public so no one else will suffer as I have. Even if is not true, then the question that is even more horrible is why did they put it in print. Why, Lie so blatantly please what could they gain by doing that other than money from medicare and tri-care.
    Thank you, Pamela Cameron

  • this is the response to my complaint, I had made and have made every effort to get these individuals to simply apologize . I called Mondat June 17, I called, Tuesday, June 18, I called, Wednesday, June 19 and not one of the individuals has made an effort to call back. They have hung up on me, taken my phone number and name and said that my message to resolve this their way is my desire face to face. Yet obviously as intelligent as they may appear they do not understand that failing to let someone know they have Lung Cancer is a problem, some four long years later. I can only imagine they are hoping I will die before the full story comes to light. I do not plan on that happening anytime soon and if they chose not to call, to hang up or threaten me with a lawsuit lets get that going. I have nothing to lose however, they have everything to lose. A prescription bottle with the name, date and changed dosage is hard to deny I do not care who you are or how much you know you can not argue with physical evidence like I actually still have from September 2010, when Paul Edgecomb filled a prescription through Walgreen's Drug store on 55th Ave. and Thunderbird Rd. Since the man fired me in April 2010, and your documents that were created after November 2010 have all of a sudden shown up in my records in the past year, how did that happen. This is going to be posted I thing two and a half years plus is more than enough time for you to do the right thing which none of you are willing to do, so bring on your worst, it cannot be worse than seeing a diagnosis of "Renal Cell Carcinoma with Metastasis to the Lung" with a date of 2009, for the first time nine weeks ago. This comment is your response and you have no desire to resolve a thing. It is clear to me this comment was only made as the same type of response you have consistently given for over two and a half years. This will acknowledge your PeopleClaim complaint. As a matter of policy, this medical practice does not respond substantively to complaints posted online. Dr. Edgecomb left our practice quite some time ago; we will, however, be happy to discuss any issues you might have in a more appropriate forum. Please contact this practice directly to initiate that discussion. We look forward to working with you to address your concerns.

  • Did you really want to resolve my concerns or just hang-up on me over and over again. I really hate to tell you that even if this forum were not available and I just spoke to two people a day and told them of my experiences with Thunderbird Internal Medicine, Banner Thunderbird Hospital, Paul Edgecomb, MD, and Daniel Schlosser, MD, in one month one million people would know what is on this site. Look at it from the standpoint that I speak to about five people a day, and have done so for the past two and a half years, prior to nine weeks ago before I actually saw and was given the document with the diagnosis of Lung Cancer. So how many people do you think I show that document to, e-mail it to, give a copy of it to everyday for the last nine weeks, I can guarantee you that it is more than five people per day plus all of those for two and a half years. It might explain why Paul Edgecomb, MD dose not work in Arizona, but I think your empty waiting room and an entire floor being unused might be a better measure of the power of my voice. I will not stop until all of you apologize or stop harming the members of my community.
