Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I've rented an apartment from Monte D'Oro/Merion Realty Management. I tried to see my apartment twice before my move in date, being told the first time that they didn't allow viewing because the unit was being painted and that they were also laying new carpet. The second time I tried to see the apartment was the day before I moved in and I was again denied the opportunity to see my apartment. I was not allowed to see my unit until the day I was scheduled to move in, Saturday June 16 and I was shocked at what they considered ready to rent. I complained that day of the awful state my unit was in, dirty/dusty window covering, filty oven and refrigerator, broken closet doors, with dust and spider webs, broken glass on the carpet. I was told by Sharon Matosky, Asst. Manager, that she would have the cleaning crew come back and clean it properly as well as have things repaired. Believing her, I signed the lease and delayed my moving day to the following Monday. I should have never signed the lease and ran to another place. I returned with my furniture to find that nothing I was promised had been done. I had not choice but to move in, I was standing there with the movers and no where to returned to. I have been lied to and now I am being threatened with eviction because I've requested repairs, complained to the parent company about the problems and asked them to intervene (which they have not done). I have written to the Hoover Chamber of Commerce about the problem. I have contacted the Better Business Bureau and the Alabama State Attorney General - Consumer Complaints department. I haven't received any help from these to agencies because Monte D'Oro won't answer the letters that they have written to them on my behalf. I have found things missing from my apartment and my place has not been broken into. I sent a written complained to the manager and I have yet to have him even acknowledge my complaint. All door and windows were locked, so that means a key was used to enter and leave."
