Claimant says:
"I contracted Derrick Durant Williams of Michigan Construction Managers Consultants, Pone: 248-787-5436, PO Box 47811, Oak Park, MI 48237 contracted to remove old tile from Basement and install new ceramic title.
Total job was $2100 for labor and I bought the materials. He put tile in the center of 1/2 of the floor. No corners were done. He placed the title cement 3/4 inch thick in the center and nothing on the corner of the tiles and when one stepped on the tile they broke.
I consulted another contractor and asked for an analysis as to why the tile was raised and cracking and breaking.
When I questioned him about how he was doing the job he asked for money on 6/6/14 to buy grout and he would show me the grout would take care of the problem. He took the $100 dollars for the grout and never came back. He walked off the job and took tools that I had bought(i.e. hammer measuring tape, floor scraper to remove old title, sponges, grout applier and other items I bought for him to do the job; which are things he should have had.
He started the job on May 2, 2014and was scheduled to finish on May 18,2014 because I had guest coming into town.
The total job was $2100 and I paid him a total o$1750 and he did not do the job.
I had to hire another contractor to finish the job at $2000. The floor could not be completed professionally, the corners are a mess and the tiles are raised and uneven and breaking. Because the tiles kept breaking I had to buy 4 additional boxes.
He broke or misplaced the molding for the steps and other areas and pins from the doors.
Also he had poor work performance. He worked only 2-3hours per day laying no more than 3-4 tiles at time. He never worked 5 days per week only 3 at most.
I want to be reimbursed for the $1750 I paid out and 1/2 of the $2000 I paid to have the job completed plus the tools he took.
I tried calling him on several occasions to try to resolve the problem he refused to answer the phone and never returned calls after numerous messages. Also he never returned to finish the job."
