Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I purchased a car care plan on Groupons.com. The plan was with the Meineke Shop on Taylor Road, Roseville California 95678. I made an appointment for my 2001 Chevy Silverado, because my service engine light was on. Under the plan, there is a coupon for a FREE Computerized Scan For Check Engine Light. That's what I went in for. Joe the Shop Manager helped me at the counter when I arrived to drop my truck off. I asked how long it would take and said just a couple of minutes. He then grab a machine from behind the counter a went to my truck. There he pluged it in and the machine gave him a code number. Joe returned to me with the code number. I asked what this was and he replied that the number is why the engine light is on and that it would cost me an extra $90.00 to have my truck hooked up to another machine just to tell them why the engine light is on. Joe also said that if I have the repairs done at his shop that the $90.00 would become part of the total repair. So, I trust him to find the problem and then he would call me. Later that day, Joe called me and said that they had found the problems. He said I needed a new purge valve and a new charcole canister. I said OK, how much? Joe came back with $477.42. I asked are you sure and he replied, YES. I trusted him to do the right thing and told him to make the repairs. Later that day, I picked up my truck and paid Joe/Meineke in FULL. The next morning, I drove to the gas station to get gas in my truck. When I open up the flap where my gas cap is, I discoved that it had been replaced with a new gas cap. That's when I suspected Joe of not telling me the truth about the repairs on my truck. Then I drove to the Auto Zone and had the man at the counter enter the code PO 442. He said that it was probably my gas cap. That when I told him my story with Joe/Meineke. I drove back to the Meineke Shop on Taylor Road to confront Joe the shop Manager, but the man in charge said that he was off and that he could not help me. This was 10am the next morning. I then asked him to show me the old parts. He replied they threw them away. He also told me to come back the next morning and talk to Joe the Manager. That he was the one responsable. From there I drove to Les Schwab Tires to have my brakes worked on. There I ask the Tech's to see if the purge valve and charcole canister had been replaced. They took me to the back and put my truck up on the rack and showed me where the charcole canister was located. There was'nt a finger print on it. They also showed me where the purge valve was, it looked like they had taken it off, cleaned it alittle and replaced it. The one Tech suggested that I contact the Burea of Automotive Repairs. From there, I drove back to Meineke again and told the man there what I had found out. He just repeated himself and said to come back tomorrow morning when Joe was there. When I left there, I drove to John L. Sullivan Chevy Dealership Parts Department. There I talked to the Part Counter Guy. The first thing was the purge valve. How much was it over the counter. He came back with $49.57. I told him Meineke charged me $189.99, just for the part, no labor. Then I asked about the charcole canister. He came back with $235.75. Meineke charged me $129.93. The Parts Guy also said that the canister is a dealer installed item only. They don't sell it over the counter. With all this information I returned to Meineke the next morning and confronted Joe the shop Manager. I had my wife with me. I told him that I discovered the new gas cap and all the information that I had gathered. He knew about the gas cap, but failed to tell me. He said he had receipts, but I did'nt see them. I asked for my money back and he refused. He told me to contact the Owner. I tried the Cutomer Service number on the coupon booklet and the lady on the other end said that they were just a marketing firm. She gave me a number to reach the Owner/Ralph Ahmad. He will not return my calls."
