Claimant says:
"We purchased a Whirlpool 40 gallon hot water heater from Lowes on 8/01/2013. (Model N40561-403; serial #1324T482130) It had a 6 year warranty on it...It was installed and vented through a sidewall which was the only way it could've been vented by Lowes which we paid $320.50 for labor charges... It worked fine for 4 years.. Just recently the pilot light has been going out and having to be reset every few days... I called Lowes and was directed to call the Whirlpool Company which told me it was vented incorrectly and should've been vented straight up ... We live in a two story house and it would've had to come up through our living room...We had it checked by our plumber who said it was needing a pilot light assembly kit....which Whirlpool said they wouldn't honor the warranty till it was vented correctly, which our plumber said it was ... Both Lowes and Whirlpool are at fault and passing the buck back and forth so nobody is willing to take the blame but since Lowes installed it and if it is done incorrectly they should be responsible."
