Claimant says:
"I took my truck (Dodge 1 ton) in for an oil change. They changed a filter and charged me $97.99 for just the filter. I checked with an auto store and it should of cost about $30.00. I spent my gro. money for that $234 oil change. My wife cried. We are seniors and I cannot change my oil any more as I cannot get up and down. I am 73. I have never had such a high priced oil change in all of those 73 years. I cannot afford to be taken advantage of like this. They did not ask me if I wanted the filter changed they just did it. It was the fuel filter. I talked to them but I needed my pickup so what could I do but pay. My wife had to cover this with our bill money. I told Jeffy Lube I would never use them again, but I'm still broke with 26 more days before any funds come into my home. This is a real hardship on my family. I was overcharged."

  • After researching your situation, the entire cost of your oil change is slightly suspect. A Dodge 3500 (or Dodge 1 ton) uses 12 quarts of oil, and obviously as part of oil change would require a new filter. Now, were you presented with a cost estimate prior to the oil change? Technically, for repair work, you are supposed to be presented with an itemized estimate, but while an oil change is not repair work per se, an estimate on the cost should have been presented to you. While your local shop is not responding or hasn’t responded to your claim, perhaps the corporate offices for the company will. Maybe writing them a letter indicating that you have tried to work with the local company, but you feel that the cost you were charged for an oil change was extremely high, and that you were never told how much it would cost prior to the oil change. Maybe by reaching up higher in the company it can help you get a resolution you would be happy with.
