Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I found Jacob Sullivan through a Craigslist ad under the services section for auto mechanics. My vehicle broke down in Orland, Ca and required a new engine. I talked to Jacob and we agreed to a price of $3,000 which included parts and labor. We agreed to a $1300 deposit which covered the cost for the re-built engine, the remaining balance would be paid when the repairs had been completed.
We met on Thursday (8/16/12) evening where I paid him the $1300 deposit in cash in the town of Chico. Jacob told me he would buy the engine that night, tow my vehicle to his shop the next morning to start work on it and that it would be completed in no more than four days time.
The next day I called him several times to see what progress was being made, if he had any trouble towing it, and to offer my assistance if he needed a hand with such a big job. I called him many times with no response. Later that day I went into town to see if the vehicle was still there, which would determine if he had even started on it. It was still there.
The following morning, Saturday August 18th after several more phone calls I got in touch with Jacob who apologized and told me to meet him in thirty minutes where my van was parked. After waiting for 2 hours, phone calls, voicemails, and texts I decided he wasn't going to show. At this point I was very concerned with his intentions and proceeded to call local authorities to see what steps had to take place to either get in touch with Jacob or what legal action was necessary to get my money returned to me. After talking to Chico, Oroville ( where he stated his shop was on his Craigslist ad), I was directed to contact Black Butte Sheriff who informed me that since it was a civil matter, sueing him in the local superior court was my only option.
I was also able to get in touch with his landlord who had only met him once and after hearing my situation told me to get in touch with the police as well. He also agreed to call me if he saw Jacob in his shop. I first talked to his landlord Sunday and just spoke with him earlier today and said Jacob has still not returned to work, it is now Tuesday. He was also the person who referred me to this site.
I call Jacob at least 20 times per day, left several voicemails, texts, emails to his work account ( which turns out doesn't exist) and the email from his Craigslist ad with just one phone call answer today where we talked for about 30 seconds before he told me call back in 20 minutes. In those 30 seconds he went off on some story about him getting robbed but didn't finish to bad cell reception. I called him back 20 minutes later and no surprise, didn't answer.
At this point I don't see any other option but through the legal system, unfortunately for both of us since I'm trying to return to WA. This has caused much more of a headache and problem than my original break down."
