Statement of Claim
"I have an account with Guardian Security Systems that I started over 1 1/2 years ago. I just recently sold my house there in Oklahoma City and now living in apartment. I called Guardian to cancel my service and they tell me either the new owner agrees to take over the remaining period in the contract or I finish the contract out, paying off the remaining months. I have called them twice to ask them to terminate my account, then spoke with a supervisor who still refused to help resolve my issue to my satisfaction.

This is not good business practice and courtesy with customers if they want to retain customers than just make some quick money. I am not residing in that house where the system is installed.
I am not buying a new house for a few months; it is unclear at this time when I will buy another house.

If Guardian must have the contract finished out I want a refund from the unused period from the time I moved out of my house and ceased to use the system. Otherwise, I want my account terminated immediately."

Additional Communication Between Claimant and Guardian Security Systems (Oklahoma) Hide
  • Oct 03, 2014, Guardian Security Systems (Oklahoma) (responding party) added:
  • At Guardian Security, we strive for honest, respectful interactions with our customers. In reviewing this complaint, we found that our agents were patient, respectful and courteous as they offered options to the consumer and in explaining the terms and conditions of the contract. It is unfortunate that the consumer considers that poor customer service.
The consumer signed an Alarm Monitoring Agreement (the Contract) with Guardian Security Systems, Inc. (GSS) in May 2012. The original term was 36-months. Of course, signature is explicit acceptance of the terms and conditions of the contract. The consumer agreed to 36 payments in exchange for the installation of equipment at no out of pocket expense. We simply ask that the consumer fulfill his duty to perform. It is unfortunate that he considers that a bad business practice. We invested considerable expense in this account, and only wish to recoup what is legally entitled to us. To ignore that investment and walk away would be a poor business practice. The contract states: “I am responsible for the payments due under the terms of the monitoring agreement even if I move and no longer use the security system installed under this agreement.” The consumer accepted these terms…we simply expect what the consumer promised to deliver. We do offer a transfer of service option for homeowners.
