Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I am buying a 03 honda civic from drive to day and i'm paying 350 a month note. I had relised that my horn nor the brake lights wasn't working and I took it to advance auto parts to check my fuses an the said its wasn't a fuse in the place for the horn nor for the brakes. And the fuse sopost to be for both horn/ brakes. When they put the fuse in the spot it made the horn blow and the brake lights stays on continuely it never goes off even when the cars off they tould me that the wires was crossed up and it could cause the car to blow up,so they took it out. The next day I called them a lady answers the phone an I asked to speak to the head lady, the lady said that's she's busy and she ask me what can she help me with and I told her what was going on and everything that the people told me she said she will tell her and let her know what was going on. I said ok. She said call back later. I called the office 4 times an they keep telling me she with a customer eveytime I called. I called back the next day they tould me the something over an over again. So I called back the next day they told me the something over an over. So I called back the next day she finally answers the. phone. An I tould her what was going on, and she told me that they can't do anything about that she said we only do something if the motor or transmission mess up she said u will have to take it to another shop an pay to let someone look at it. She said the brake lights where working before u left the lot. I asked her I said how when the fuse wasn't even in the box I didn't check it advanced auto parts had checked it cause I don't anything about fuses an I said they showed me where it was missing and when the put it in the horn blow an the brake lights came on but it never goes off even when the car is off! She said im sorry we can do anything about it. That was the end"

  • In addition to the advice already given, you may want to have your car checked by a licensed mechanic about the fuse issue. If there was the representation that those parts worked when you left the lot when in fact they didn’t, you may be able to have some recourse or assistance under Alabama’s laws. Having a mechanic check the vehicle and outline exactly what is wrong, how it potentially could have gone wrong, and what is needed to fix it, could help your claim when you write to the car dealership to ask for some assistance or compromise.

  • Did you purchase the car "as is" or was there some type of warranty? From the information you provided, it sounds as though they have provided a limited warranty on the engine and transmission and the electrical issues you are having are not covered. However, Alabama does have a few laws that may still cover your situation. I have included a link below so you can read and review the information to see if it applies to you. If so, I would write a letter outlining the issues your car is having and reference the law. Even if a law doesn't apply, I would still write them a letter and ask them to either fix the car themselves or pay to have someone fix it. Think about a few resolutions that would make you happy so if they don't accept your first suggestion, you have other resolutions to negotiate with. http://www.ehow.com/about_6573267_lemon-law-used-cars-alabama.html
