Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I’m writing to request the cancellation of a wrongly-charged collection fee of $457.09, which was the result of negligence, misinformation and gross blunders made by Verizon – including not fulfilling promised services.
On Sep 2011, I called Verizon asking for TV and internet installation services. During the call, the representative failed to inform me that it was a bundle service with the TV service provided by DIRECTV, which was a separate company other than Verizon. Moreover, I wasn’t informed that to activate the bundling services, I would have to sign a two-year contract with DIRECTV.
On 14 Sep, I spent the whole day waiting for the installation staff to visit my apartment. Unfortunately, all I got was a call on the second day telling me that my order had been cancelled due to the wrong address. The installation staff from Verizon took down my apartment number wrongly as 3B, while it was actually 3D, and they did not even try to verify.
Despite this, I reordered the service and asked to install it before 27 Sep, the date my parents would come to visit me from China. The representative offered me the date of 26 Sep and promised me “ready to use” service right after the installation.
On 25 Sep, when I called Verizon to confirm the installation date as previously scheduled, the representative said the quickest installation date available would be 12 Oct rather than 26 Sep. To me, this was unacceptable because my parents would have arrived by then and they needed internet access badly.
Completely disappointed, I decided to cancel the order with Verizon as a result of Verizon’s repeated blunders and inability to carry out a promised service at an agreed-upon date and time. Due to the fact that I wasn’t informed of the bundling nature of the service and that DIRECTV cannot provide standalone TV service at the agreed discount, I had to cancel the contract with DIRECTV as well. At the cancellation, I received a Collection Notice of a $457.09 penalty for breaching the contract. It was less than 15 days since the contract became effective.
To resolve the issue, I would appreciate your help in communication and clarifying with Verizon. Enclosed are copies of my records (including contract copy and Collection Notice).
I look forward to your reply and a resolution to my problem. I’ll wait till 15 Feb(?) before seeking help from a consumer protection agency or Better Business Bureau."
