Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I purchased a laptop about two months ago from Best Buy in Vallejo. At the time of the purchase the sales person asked if I wanted to also purchase a protection plan. I said yes. He asked if I wanted just tech support or the plus plan which included coverage for accidental spills, drops, etc. I said that I wanted the plus protection as the laptop was for my teen age son. I paid for everything and went on my way. About two weeks after that I bought a laptop for myself. When asked if I wanted the Protection Plus plan I said no, that the tech support would be sufficient. Three weeks ago, my son spilled coffee on the laptop. I took it to Best Buy for repairs, thinking that at least I had the protection and it would be repaired. Two days later I got an email stating that I needed to approve repair costs. I called and said that I had purchased a two year protection plan, and was told that I had only purchased the tech support. I told them that I had specifically said yes to the plus plan, and that the mistake was the sales persons. Then I found out that I have protection plus on the second laptop i bought which I specifically said that I did not want. I have done a lot of business with Best Buy and always found them very helpful. This was not the case in this issue. I was quoted a repair price that was more than the cost of the laptop itself, on a device that I thought was completely covered because that's what I thought that I purchased. I feel like I should be able to assume that when I told the salesperson what insurance I wanted, that would be what I would have."
