Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I upgraded my U-Verse speed per phone on 4/20/16 and when I went to pay my bill on 5/18/16, I found that the amounts charged were much higher than what I was told initially per phone. I was told my new monthly fee would be $72.00 per month plus taxes for 6 months on a promotion. I asked if there were any other fees since this would have been the same payment (6 mo promo ended) on my past service. I was told no, just $72.00 plus tax, so I decided it was a fair deal and accepted.

When I went to pay my bill online, I saw the charges were $85.00, plus $7.00 equipment leasing fee, plus taxes per month, making a total of $94.91 as my first payment!!!! I was never told of any $7.00 equipment leasing fee per month. let alone a bill that is $94.91.
I tried to resolve this directly with AT&T per phone on 5/18 with Barbara, but then asked to speak with a manager. Barbara told me a manager would call me back the same day (5/18). I did not receive a call back on 5/18 or 5/19.

I called back on 5/20/16 and spoke with a manager named Jessica, but only was given an apology and told that the Rep probably forgot to mention the $7.00 equipment leasing fee during the order. She said that all customers are charged the leasing fee and she see's that it was listed on the original order (which I did not get a copy of). I told her that my prior modem did not have a leasing fee and I was not told of any leasing fee, and that this seems like a bait and switch tactic and it is a very deceptive way to do business. I stated that I would have kept my old plan if I had only known this! She just said "I apologize" in a monotone voice.
This is wrong and it seems to be a very deceptive practice that needs to be investigated."
