Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"My name is Marc G. Paruta. AT&T cell number 415-425-1504 On April 4th I went into the AT&T retail store in El Cerrito , CA with my mother in inquire about adding her as a new AT&T mobile user family plan. Retail Sales Consultant Dennis Caballero showed us 2 basic AT&T LG phones. He told us that the most basic plan without the "blackberry" keypad was only $15 per month and the LG phone with the Blackberry keypad was $20 per month. I explained to Dennis that my mother was in her eighties and she did not know how to text. She needed they most basic phone possible at the lowest cost. Dennis quoted us again the $15 per month price and that there would be no activation fee since I was adding my mother to my existing plan. We agreed and paid for the phone that same day. Well a month goes by and I get my AT&T bill and the $15 I expected to add my mother to the plan was suddenly $91 for the month. This included a $20 per month charge for my mother (Maria Paruta's phone 941-391-1930) when I was expected to pay $15 per month. I called AT&T customer service and they said that Dennis Cabrillo had made a mistake and that the cost was $20 per month. Is it AT&T practice to deliberately deceive the elderly ? What a horrible thing to do! I would not mind the extra $5 if if were only to be for one month but my mother intends to use this phone for the rest of her life. I feel that AT&T will say anything just to make a sale and that Dennis Cabrillo deceived us about the true cost for this phone. I have been an AT&T customer for 15 years and always paid my bills on time. I have an AT&T LAN line (510-527-9824), AT&T television, AT&T internet service and 2 AT&T cell phones that I pay for each month. I expect to be treated a little better than I have been. If AT&T does not want to loose all my business for the rest of my life here is what I expect. AT&T to honer it's offer that they would charge me $15 per month for my mother's cell phone and I mean $15 a month for the first month and every month thereafter and they reverse the activation fee Dennis told me was free. I don't appreciate AT&T's deceptive business practices of saying anything to make a sale. Their sales reps should be properly trained as to what the actual prices are before they make an offer to a customer. AT&T customer service told me Dennis was in error when he quoted me $15 a month. Well we signed up for service that day based on his offer. I'm not paying for his mistake.
