Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"My 2006 MAZDA was taken to Zumbrota Ford July 29th, 2014to have a heavy ticking and it had a problem with random missing. They replaced: Timing Chain, tensioner, guides and phaser, installed a new diamond washer and set the time. They started the car and it was still missing. They said that they diagnosed the miss and found that the intake valves were bent. After a multi-point inspection they verified low compression in cylinder 3. Then they tore the engine down to find the point of failure. They removed the cylinder head & sad valves were hitting the pistons because of loose timing components that had been replaced during the previous repair. Using a marking compound they checked the valve seating in the cyl head and still believed the valves were bent. After replacing the cyl head gaskets and all the gaskets related to the head they sent the head out to be rebuilt. Then they replaced the high pressure pump. All the timing components were replaced after reassembly. They started the car and still the #3 cyl was missing. They again removed the head and sent it out to have the exhaust valve/s replaces in cylinders 1 & 3 because they hit the pistons, on the timing work everything was turned by hand when this was done they were told no valves were bent, but they replaced them anyway. They again reassembled the head and it was STILL missing on cylinder 3. They installed a new injector and still the cylinder was missing, They checked the compression and said it was ok. They replaced the fuel module. Zumbrota Ford worked on this car from July 2014 to 10/30/2014 and never did fix the original problem of the heavy tick and the random miss. It did take nearly 4 months to pay off the cost of the "repair" and when our son picked up the car they told him there was bad (old) gas and possibly faulted out spark plugs from it sitting so long. He put fuel system cleaner in it and still it was hesitating, missing and lagging. About half way through the second tank of gas it was missing really bad so he changed the spark plugs. On February 16, 2015 the engine blew up in an epic fail. One of the cylinders failed and the rod punched several holes in the block.

The total cost out of pocked was $1896.14 and additional $650.00 was paid by the warranty company for a total of $2546.14.
Zumbrota ran a diagnostic and are claiming that they are unable to find a root cause for the engine failure.

It appears that Zumbrota Ford wants an additional charge of $798.53 for running the diagnostic.

Zumbrota Ford is claiming because they can't find the root cause of the engine failure they will not be held accountable for anything they may have done to cause the cylinder for freeze up and for the rod to punch several holes in the engine block.

This is unacceptable.

Zumbrota Ford now wants to charge nearly $7000.00 to replace the engine with a used engine.

I believe if Zumbrota had fixed the original problems (like they said they did) the engine would have been running right and it wouldn't have to be replaced.

I believe that Zumbrota Ford should have to cover the cost of replacing the engine."
