Randall P. says: You know that old saying "you find out how
good your insurance company is when you file
your 1st claim"? Been a customer of Cabrillo
since July 2016. Had a claim in January 2018 for
frozen pipes. Expense came to $40,000.
Insurance onlv covered half. Every year since
then our premiums go up and they hit me with a
"claim surcharge". So in essence we paid for the
claim. Filed a 2nd claim April 2022 for a
supposed foundation issue. Adjuster came out
to inspect. Submitted report to Cabrillo. When I
asked for adjusters report. They wouldn't share.
Wanted to send a structural engineer out. I
refused after reading the reviews on this site and
others. Seems Cabrillo has a habit of cancelling
policies after home inspections. Instead I
submitted an estimate of the cost to repair from
a licensed contractor. Offered to pay half. Two
weeks later I get a notice of cancellation. This is
a 3rd tier company that doesn't want to pay
claims. What good is insurance to a homeowner
if you can't depend on them to come through in
a time of need? Claim is still pending.

Steve M. says: We signed a new policy with them a couple months ago. The 4 point inspection pointed out a few minor electrical issues. We heard nothing from them in terms of concerns about the electrical issues. Even still, I cured them in about 3 hours without being asked. We got a cancellation letter claiming the "damage" from the electrical issues was too much risk for them to incur. I've owned homes for 30 years and never once made a claim. If I ever did with this company, I'm certain they wouldn't pay and any award would be eaten by legal fees in court. Good riddance. I'm starting a new policy with State Farm.

Katie G. says: Cabrillo Coastal has terrible customer service. After a miscommunication with our mortgage lender they told us the bank was paying our insurance bill. The bank has no record of this. (Strike one). I recieved a letter TODAY stating our policy had been cancelled YESTERDAY. (Strike two) After staying on the phone for hours today trying to resolve this and returning the paperwork requested to reinstate our policy without lapse in coverage and pushing to get through to someone to pay my bill, they placed us on a 15 minute hold, told us the paperwork that I filled out was incorrect because the date given in the cancellation letter was wrong and said because they were closing they decided not to allow me to pay to continue my policy. (Strike three). I was a willing, ready customer who had her payment information ready. They just lost a loyal customer who has never had a claim. I have never encountered such horrible customer service. Silver lining, we found another company that was able to insure us for $400 less for the same policy and we are happy to give our business to them. Stay far away!

Laura T. says: Geico uses Cabrillo and I switched from another company. Had already canceled my other homeowners policy. The rep could see my house from Google, asked a lot of questions and came up with a monetary value for replacement (which was double our previous company, but we had remodeled, so made sense). The rate offered was good. After that they said I need a home inspection, so I figured no big deal. We had remodeled and added on, so most things were very new. The inspector went through everything with a magnifying glass practically, not just check for modern plumbing, electrical, HVAC and roof like I've read about. About 2-3 weeks go by and I get a friggin cancellation notice! They said not enough coverage, when their rep came up with the number. They also said furnace not serviced every year. That's such BS, I don't know anyone who gets their furnace serviced every year and no one mentioned that as part of the inspection. I am so furious that Geico uses Cabrillo that I may cancel all my policies and go with another company. Take your money, have you cancel your old policy and then get cancelled! Horrible company!
