Claimant says: "Lowes home improvement has pulled their advertising sponsorship for TLC's All-American Muslim. The question is why?
Lowes states that:
???It appears that we managed to step into a hotly contested debate with strong views from virtually every angle and perspective ??? social, political and otherwise ??? and we???ve managed to make some people very unhappy,??? Individuals and groups have strong political and societal views on this topic, and this program became a lightning rod for many of those views... As a result we did pull our advertising on this program. We believe it is best to respectfully defer to communities, individuals and groups to discuss and consider such issues of importance.
I'd like to know which topic they are referring to. Muslims? Right Wing Christian ? Reality TV shows? Nice Rhetoric, but Lowes come'on, you're dancing around the real issue here in my opinion seems you just got punked by a Christian right fringe group that's fearful of other religions.
and here's another zinger from Lowes:
???We have a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, across our workforce and our customers, and we???re proud of that longstanding commitment.???
I'd like to put Lowes defense of their ad policy to the shoe is on the other foot test. Let's ask a few what if's:
If the show you were sponsoring was about the Holocaust, and the group sending you the petition letters to pull the ads were Holocaust deniers would you pull the ads? That would certainly be a controversial, lightning rod topic, wouldn't it? So would you respectfully defer to communities, individuals and groups to discuss and consider such issues of importance?
Let's say, the show was about a Christian topic and a group of atheist's objected and asked you to pull the ads in the name of freedom of non-religion. Would you pull your ad to appease them?
How about Hindu's? Jains, Sufi's, or Buddhists? Would you pull your ads from shows about any of these religions just because the topic might offend a small (or even a large) group of people who oppose those religions?
Lowe's its time to do the right thing. Admit that you were wrong and reinstate the ads. Show you have some back bone and integrity apart from PR rhetoric and spin control and risk angering a few fanatics with petitions in favor of supporting American values of tolerance and education.
In any event, please answer the questions I've listed above so America can better understand the real reasons you pulled your ads on All American Muslim and then decide for themselves if youi live up to your stated policy on inclusion and diversity...*” ...Show less »
