Now what also upsets me is that now that I will be 80 years old in 2016 and am getting to the point that I am more likely to use it then they raise the rate. Then my concern is that will they raise cost again and put me in a place where I can not afford it at all. Also, what if I need to go on Medicaid and can not afford to continue to pay it? When I purchased this policy I do not remember that the continued price per month could go up and what would happen after I paid in 17 years and then I can not continue my payments. I want some guarantees here. I want to be grandfathered in at the rate of 140.95 with the same benefits after all I have paid in 17 years now. I feel this is fair and there should be laws to help me in this case. Are there any laws or regulations that can help me in this situation?*” ...Show less »

Claimant says: "I'm the beneficiary on three contracts that my sister, Ruth B. Nabors, invested with Bankers. She has been deceased since August 29, 2011. September 6, 2011, I went to the Bankers Life and Casualty Company located in Cordova, Tennessee. I asked to speak with the Manger, Margherita Westervelt and was told she was in a meeting and unable to help me at that time. I advissed the lady at the outer office my purpose for visiting their office. I told her that I was a brother of Ruth Nabors and was named as the executor of her will and listed as Beneficiary of the contracts. She was very nice and helped me in this regard. She verified the three investments that Ruth had and the amounts of each. She gave me claims forms and instructions regarding filing the claims. I told her it may be a few days before I would meet with the Probate Clerk and I'm waiting on the death certificates. December 14, 2011, I received a letter from Bankers Life and Casualty Company confirming that I'm the beneficiary of these three contracts. January 5, 2012, I completed seperate claims forms for all three contracts and mailed to Bankers Life alone with original death certificate with each contract. I also mailed the original contracts on all three as per their instructions. I called the claims office in Carmel, IN just to confirmed I had everything complete. January 9, 2012, I received confirmation that the U. S. Postal Service made delivery on this date. February 13, 2012, I visited the Bankers Life and Casualty Company office in Cordova, Tennessee. I asked to speak with the Manager, Margherita Westervelt and was told she was busy. Helen Lemmon asked if she could help. I told her that it had been over a month and I had not heard anything regarding the claims that I filed January 5, 2012. Helen contacted the claims office in Camel, IN and at first they couldn't find the claims. They finally found the files. Helen told me they had lost the three original death certificates. Helen asked for another death certificates for each contract. I told her I only had one left and I needed to keep it. She talked with the claims office again and she informed me they would use a copy. Helen made a copy and faxed to their claims office while I was in her office. I couldn't understand why the claims office had not contacted me if they lost the original claim certificates. February 27, 2012, I mailed a letter to Margherita Westervelt stating that I had not heard anything from the claims department regarding these claims. March 9, 2012, I received a phone call from Margherita Westervelt stating that Bankers must have 3 more original death certificates. I advised her that I didn't have 3 and I asked here to pay for the new death certificates. I told they cost $21.00 and I felt Bankers should pay for them. She refused to pay the amount. She became irrational and said she wouldn't or couldn't pay the $21.00. She said I had to send 3 original death certificates or they will not disburse any money. Shortly she said she had to go and hung up the phone. I couldn't believe that a person in her position would talk that way. March 14, 2012, I got three original death certificates and mailed to Bankers Life and Casualty Company Claims Department in Carmel, IN. They were mailed thru the U.S. Postal Service and were delivered March 16, 2012 according to the Postal Service certificate notification. As of this date, April 21, 2012 I haven't received any disbursement money and I haven't heard anything from Bankers Life and Casualty Company.*” ...Show less »
