The counselor, Nicole, stated she was able to work out a family/friends discount for me so it would be around $2500 if I decided to go ahead with it that day, and they'd even throw in an extra match, for a total of 9. She just wanted a little something down, with payments of $76/mo for however long it takes to pay it off, but that it would be so worth it to have a real relationship, and not like the online stuff. I told her I had to watch my finances, and just had lasik surgery done that I need to pay off, and just bought a car to re-establish my credit after a bankruptcy due to divorce. I wasn't really financially ready. So, instead of $800 down, she asked what could I do. I said maybe $200 at the most. She said ok, and had me sign on the dotted line. It was around 5pm by the time I got out of there, and thought what in the world did I just do? There were so many pages, and I was already there for 3 hours, my eyes were hurting, and I just wanted to get home. Once home I looked at my checkbook, and other responsibilities, and immediately called the business card phone # she gave me, which was to member services in Nebraska. I left a message on their voice mail stating I need to cancel that, and just left their office not even an hour ago. I have no phone # for the local office & they can't be found on 411.com either. It wasn't till 2 days later I did find the local phone # on the tiny little $200 charge receipt. Every time I called, no matter what #, I was told, Nicole is the only one to give a refund, but her child is in the hospital now and she's off work. When Nicole finally called me back on Saturday, 9/25, she said let's just postpone the agreement then until my finances get better. I told her no. I wanted it cancelled that night, but couldn't reach the local office, and I felt vulnerable & drained from crying about past relationships, and I wasn't going to postpone this. I don't feel it's right to have to pay into the future, and I don't want to have to wait either. So, the answer is No. She then tried to tell me there is a $1595 cancellation fee then, since it costs that much to do a criminal background check. I told her it does not cost that much to do a criminal background check. She said they do that to protect their other clients on matchmaking. I told her I do not believe they spend that much for a background check, as companies do that all the time, and it never costs anything near that. She said, I have my options, either postpone, or pay the $1595 cancellation fee. I told her I'd see her in court before that happens. I called to cancel within the 3 day right period, per state contract law, and I am entitled to my $200 back and cancel this agreement.*” ...Show less »
