Claimant says: "On 1/24/12 two men arrived to install the backsplash in my kitchen. They began to appy a thick yellow adhesive to the wall followed by the Mosaic tile. This for me was very exciting. It had been 5 years since I remodled the kitchen. I went to Tiles Unlimitedbecause I knew their work was A1 and they had an excellent reputation. However. I was informed by Vito that he is the son in law of the prior owner and running the business. I felt he would do good by me. When first wall was half finished I peeked into the kitchen and was shocked to see the tiles sagged. I questioned the men. Which was difficult because they did not speak english. They were from Brazil and I did overhear Vito speaking to them in spanish. I quickly called Vito. By the time he arrived most of the tile was installed. I was shocked when he asked , what is the problem ? what do you want me to do?..... Vito removed the tiles in question and replaced then. The sag was fixed.
I remained shocked at the position he put me in. Rather that just correcting the obvious problem. I was also upset that the grout that I had selected which was a non- sand based grout was not used. A sand grout was used. He said it holds better with large spaces???? Never discussed. Weeks later when I pulled out the refrigerator, I was even more shocked to find the tiles left unfinished. They extended 1/2 foot beyond the end of the cabinet. Tiles ended in a one tile in and one tile out as they came in the box. Adhesive smugged past the tiles and slightly turned up appearence. What a mess.
Vito came to see the unfinished work. Stated that he would provide the labor and I would have to pay for the extra tiles. Aprox. $600.00. and sign a release prior to the work.
Vito encouraged me to do behind the stove and we did half way down. Yet he left this mess unfinished.*” ...Show less »
