Claimant says: "I've been a tenant at Parkway Gardens for 2 years. I had to pay a $300.00 security deposit to hold the apartment and was promised to get it back when I decided to move out. The first night after I took a shower I notice the paint started to chip in the bathtub, so I put a request to have the bathtub re-painted and that never happen. then I noticed the bathroom toilet wouldn???t flush and the handle fell off so I put in another request to have the toilet fixed which they did fix but a week later the same problem occurred. One month later I noticed water in all my window panes in the apartment that caused mold around the windows. I let the manager know that their was mold in my apartment and she sent the maintenance man to make the repairs but he informed me that due to bad ventilation there was nothing they could do about it. They knew that this was a problem before I moved in. My family and I were getting sick, so we decided to move. When I moved out I took pictures of the mold in the rooms. before I moved out I was suppose to have a walk through but she never showed up. I had called to reschedule the walk through with the manager and was told by her that she already did the walk through and that the apartment looked great. I called two weeks later to ask when was I going to get my deposit and I was told by the manager, Why do I keep calling? It will be in the mail in 30 days. After 30 days I received my deposit which was to my surprise only $40.00 dollars. This is what she charged me: $100.00 shampooing... mold in carpet, $80.00 cleaning... limit. Dirty, $30.00 drapes/bindings....dirty/ clean, $50.00 for touch-ups for paint and prime, which came out to be $260.00 dollars. I was refunded $40.00 dollars. When I called the manger and ask why I received a $40.00 deposit she told me because of all the repairs done on the apartment. Then I asked her why I was being charged for mold and she said The mold was in the addendum and it was my problem. So, I said you never said anything about the mold in the apartment when I first moved in, nor was there anything in my rental agreement, nor did you state anything in the walk through about the mold. I feel that I was cheated out of my deposit. I was charged for unnecessary repairs. If you noticed all the items she listed is what you would charge for deposit for new tenants. I did not destroy or damage the apartment and therefore, I think I should get my deposit back.*” ...Show less »
