Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I briefly used Magicjack for my home phone service. It was very substandard in that it didn't provide the basic features for my home phone service that I'd previously had. The Caller ID feature for incoming calls with Magicjack doesn't display the callers name--just numbers. They do not make that clear in any of their advertising. The Call Waiting feature doesn't display anything--no name or number just a sound that indicates another call is waiting. In addition to that, it could take up to 32 seconds for an outbound call I placed to begin ringing. I quickly saw that I did not want to continue with them as my home phone carrier. I purchased the equipment first directly from them not at a retail location.(they charged me a fee of $10.78 to port my number over to them from the phone carrier I had then). I called Magicjack to cancel my home phone service with them and that's when what I consider the real nightmare began(the average wait time for me placing a call to customer service was 41 minutes).

I was given a website to access to get the return label for the equipment. The website wasn't functioning. After another long wait to speak to customer service, I was emailed the information that would need to go inside the package with the equipment--no return label was ever given to me. In that phone call I requested that my number be ported over to my future home phone carrier. Two days later, I got an email from my future phone carrier stating Magicjack was refusing to port my number because they needed the pin number from the account I had with them. Livid, I quickly made sure my future phone company had the information necessary to complete the port of my number. The next day, I got another email from my future home phone carrier saying Magicjack was refusing to port my number over because they needed my account number. I was beyond frustrated at that point, but didn't know it was going to get worse. I provided my future home phone carrier with my Magicjack account number immediately. The next day I finally got an email from Magicjack with a link in it for me to use to complete the port out process. Clicking the link took me to a page that said there was a $30.00 fee to complete the port out of my number--then an additional $2.34 administrative fee. In all of the 'bad business deals' I've experienced this tops the list. I would like this transaction to be reviewed for the fairness of their business practices. I paid the fees because they would not port over my phone number until they were paid. My hope is that their policies will be seen for what they are--highway robbery..."
