Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"My daughter bought me a 39 inch Magnavox on July 23, 2013 for my birthday. She paid cash. The Warranty Card was completed and sent. On February 5, 2014 the set died. I contacted Magnavox by phone as was advised they could not do anything without a receipt. My daughter went back to the store and was told that all cash transactions are dumped from their system at year-end and they could not provide a copy of the receipt. I contacted a local TV service and was told the board was bad and would need to be replaced at a cost of $150 plus $35 service charge. I had the work done and wrote to Magnavox on February 20, 2014, no response; and again on April 25, 1014, no response. I received a call from Michael, at Magnavox stating there was nothing they could do. I asked him where it states you need a copy of the receipt for the warranty to be honored and he said I made a good point. I contacted Business Consumer Alliance, Elizabeth Basssaro, she got no response. I then contacted California Department of Consumer Affairs. On June 12 a message was left on my phone by a Louis of Funai Corp. I called back the same day and left a message. No call back. I have called 3 times since and left messages with no call back. Magnavox advised the Complaint Mediation Division that they left me a message and were waiting for me to call back. In February Magnavox told me they know the warranty expires on 7-23-14. I feel they are using these tactics for the warranty to expire so I will have no recourse to recoup the $185 I paid to have a 6 month old television repaired."
