Statement of Claim
"Gwendolyn Dozier of Toddler Temps (formerly known as Child Care Staffing Solutions DC) wrote me a check on 12/4/2013 for wages earned in the amount of $423.50. The check bounced. I was charged $20.00 total in fees by my financial institution for the bounced check. Since then I was due to be paid an additional $159.50 for wages earned, and I have not been paid.

Gwendolyn Dozier owes me a total of $603.00.

Gwendolyn Dozier knows that she owes me for wages earned plus fees and in the past has claimed on more than one occasion that she had the money to pay me what she owed me, but on the days she said she was going to call me to make arrangements to pay me (e.g. wire transfer, Western Union), she either called and gave excuses, or she didn't call at all.

In addition I requested to receive year-to-date earnings documentation. I was informed that that would not be a problem. I still have not received documentation of year-to-date earnings."

  • "We have clients whose payments were delayed due to the fact that they are government funded."

The above statement doesn't make sense and doesn't explain why I have not yet been paid. Payment issues began the end of November 2013. If your clients receive payments that are government funded, then your clients were paid on time, as the government pays on time.

I was given a check on December 4th, 2013 that bounced. I was promised payment on December 12th, 2013 via wire transfer, and I never received payment. I was also promised payment on December 23rd, 2012 via Western Union, and I never received payment.

If you didn't have the funds to pay me, then why did you knowingly write me a bad check and make those promises to pay me?

You've promised to pay me in the past on more than one occasion and have not kept your word.

Why am I to believe that I will be paid by January 24th, 2014?

What will be different this time?

I am due $22.00 for work I completed the week of November 25th, 2013, and I am due $137.50 for work I completed the week of December 2nd, 2013 for a total of $159.50. The time sheets for those pay periods were submitted weeks ago.

Also, I requested year-to-date earnings documentation on December 18th, 2013 and again on December 19th, 2013, and I still haven't received it.

When am I going to receive year-to-date earnings documentation?

  • Jan 22, 2014, Claiming party added:
  • You stated that "payroll confirmed they did receive a copy of your time sheet for the week of Dec. 2, 2013" (which is for $137.50), so why would I need to send a copy of the time sheet for the week of December 2nd again?

In my claim I stated that you owe me a total of $603.00. In your initial response to this claim you stated that you would pay $603.50 by January 24th, 2014. Why did you agree to pay the amount I requested, $603.00 plus, by January 24th, 2014 if you were unclear about the amount you owed me or had any questions about how I arrived at any amounts?

Also, you sent me year-to-date earnings documentation that is incorrect. The only amounts that should be included in the year-to-date earnings should be the amount that I was actually paid. You included amounts that you have yet to pay me. The year-to-date documentation needs to be corrected and re-sent.

  • Jan 23, 2014, Claiming party added:
  • You've agreed to pay $603.50 by January 24th, 2014. You may pay via cashier's check or Western Union. Personal and business checks will not be accepted. How are you going to pay?

  • Jan 27, 2014, Claiming party added:
  • Payment in the amount of $603.50 was due 3 days ago, and I still have not received payment from you, nor have you informed me of how you're going to pay.

  • Feb 03, 2014, Claiming party added:
  • On January 2nd, 2014 you stated the following:

"Our company called Ms. Harper today and left a message just asking to provide the payroll date."

No one from Toddler Temps called me on January 2nd, 2014. The last time someone called me from Toddler Temps was on December 20th, 2013.

  • Feb 03, 2014, Claiming party added:
  • Payment of $603.50 was due by January 24th.

I received the $100.00 payment today that you sent via Western Union.

Why didn't you send the full payment in the amount of $603.50?

Message from Toddler Temps (Formerly Known As Child Care Staffing Solutions Dc): We have clients whose payments were delayed due to the fact that they are government funded. On the dates our funds were to be wired they were not. We are working this with our clients. Our company would like to resolve this matter as soon as possible. The only amount we are unclear about is the $159.50. Our payroll personnel could not confirm that amount or a time sheet for wages earned.
Our company called Ms. Harper today and left a message just asking to provide
the payroll date. We have not completely resolved this as most of our day care centers closed the week of Christmas and will open on January 6, 2014.

  • I also worked for this company a few months ago. They owed me money but the struggle of trying to get them to pay me was so hard so I moved on. It's sad how they are going around stealing from people

  • My granddaughter worked for her and each check that she received was returned to her for insufficient funds. She cashed her checks at a check cashing place and each time they called her and told her the check was no good. Now they want her to pay the money back and she does not have it. She has been trying to get in touch with Gwendolyn Dozier and she does not answer the phone or return her calls.
